This is going to sound contradictory but I support Ray all the way.  But if we've learned anything about previous matchups, is that ray simply cannot guard ray.  Can't even sow him down.  And it's not because ray is a horrible defender or because wade is the greatest scorer.  But like a lot of things, sometimes matchups can't really be explained.  Ray makes wade look like the greatest scorer ever and wade makes ray look like the worst defender ever.

This is  why the loss of Avery really stings.  But  I matter, they don't have bosh either so no excuses.  So again, Doc has to figure out what to do in this matchup.  I would consider playing rondo on wade as much as possible.

I would put Rondo on wade and Ray on Chalmers.

then when they sub, put Pietrus on wade. its going to have to be team defense though to really limit him.

Dwyane Wade is quicker and more explosive than the older Kobe Bryant.

Ray Allen has solid size and decent quickness for a two guard and is a smart defender who understands positioning and team defense. Ray can do reasonably well against an offensive threat like Kobe Bryant (good size, good quickness, not that explosive anymore) so long as he has a tough team defense around him but struggles against Wade (who has exceptional quickness, agility and explosiveness) because Wade's quickness can beat him at the point of attack far easier than Kobe can.

It's why Wade is a much tougher check for Ray.

I donĀ“t know but I would put Allen, Ray now is not 100% and he is injured. When Pierce go to the bench, Pietrus about Lebron.

Other options are Moore, substitute when Rondo go to the bench and Dooling about Wade.

Doc will see what it does, this is a big problem, because Wade usually played very well against the Celtics.

I dont really get the Rondo thing

Rondo would probably have a tougher time on Wade than Allen would.

Wade is just too tough a cover for Allen, we just gotta hope he misses shots

I don't know if Rondo could be the primary defender on Wade but I'd like to see him check Wade for some short stretches now and then. I think he can be useful in that role. Evaluate how he does with that and go from there.

I'd also be concerned about how much energy Rondo would have to use to defend Wade full time. How much it'd detract from his offensive game because the team badly need his creativity offensively to get guys good looks at the basket. Already a lot on his shoulders.

How so? Wade isn't the biggest 2 guard around, and as long as Rondo can keep him in front of him, forcing Wade to shoot jumpers instead of getting to the rim, then that's a definite plus.

Pietrus should start for defensive purposes. Ray Allen off the bench. I think the pecking order to cover him defensively should be.

1) Pietrus
2) Dooling
3) Daniels
4) Allen

The problem with Rondo is that he oftentimes gambles with takeaways which often leads to defensive breakdowns.

use some zone and vary the defenders on him: Ray, Dooling, Quisy, Pietrus and maybe Moore (if only due to young legs that can run all day).  Use frequent changes to keep the covering man fresh.

have the man Wade's covering just constantly running on offense to keep Wade from getting any rest on D.  get Wade tired by the end of the game.  Keep doing it regardless of whether it works for the first game because it'll pay off before the end of the series.  Wade's no spring chicken any more.

I suppose another option would be to play more small ball, with pietrus in place of bass.  We could certainly get away with it since they have alien nation head playing power forward.

Play Pietrus and Pierce together, have MP cover Wade. Marquis should get some minutes on him. Rondo can get on James for a few minutes and we can try Pierce on him. Also, our team defense might be able to help and keep him out of the lane. If he doesn't get a chance to finish on the break or in the paint, he's an average player.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.
