Quote
With 26 seconds to go in Game 7 of the 1982 Eastern Conference finals at the old Garden and the Sixers pulling away from the soon-to-be ex-champs, the crowd began to chant the now-famous phrase. Philadelphia, after all, would be facing the hated Lakers in the NBA Finals.

"You hear what the crowd is chanting to the Sixers? 'Beat LA'" said CBS color commentator and Celtics legend Bill Russell as the Sixers were beating Boston 117-105 as the seconds ticked down.

1. Beat the Heat chant.
2. Nobody leave until the game is over to give these Celtics a standing ovation. Who knows? That could be all she wrote with this group.

Chanting beat the heat would give that pathetic team too much respect.

Should be business as usual, besides, even if we dont win, the Heat will get crucified by the spurs or OKC.

Definitely stay til the end to show appreciation for the celtics.

I would do that chant if it were the Bulls or a team that had any chance of beating the Heat... but this 76ers team has no chance against them.

And also, I don't see a scenario where the 76ers have a comfortable lead towards the end of this game.  If the 76er's win this game 7, it will be by single digits.

The extra off-day is letting a lot of tension build up.

The good news is the extra off-day makes it much more likely KG will be fresh for the entire game.

Not a good plan. Sixers are done beating teams as of last Wednesday.

Celtics are gonna put the screws to this team and win by double digits.

Then the crowd can start that chant in the closing minutes for the guys in green.

Go Celtics!

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
You tell young Igouadala that Kevin Garnett and the Celtics are going to paint TD Garden with their blood. Two coats.

It's a good thought, but it's not a scenario that I like to think about.

I'd like to see the crowd give the pesky, young Sixer players a nice ovation for their efforts as they walk off the court after a valiant, but losing effort.  That would be classy.
