Its a fair point made when the player we have has been debilitated to an ineffective player. By that merit, we should've traded Ray Allen for just about any player in the league.

TP. I literally smiled and laughed out loud at that.

I was all for trading him for whatever we could get.  I think that is pretty well known around these parts, and I still maintain it was the right thing to do.  Of course, if we moved Allen, we probably would have moved Pierce and that wouldn't have allowed for the run we are currently on, so perhaps it all worked out in the end.

I concur, but I don't see the advantages of resurfacing the argument now. Yes, its obviously the case.

Ray has more ball left. His shot was awesome until he went down with injuries. Ankle surgery in off season, and Celts will sign him to a 1 year deal, with 1 year option. Unless Ray decides he can get better deal from another team; there will be suitors. Still has game.

Did you even watch Memphis - Clippers series? Mayo was by far the worst player in that series. He shot 27% from the floor in the playoffs and totally killed their offensive flow every time he would enter the game.

I love this overreaction threads and short memories.

Besides, do you want to play Mayo 8-10M per year this summer. I know I don't.

TP.  Mayo was horrible.  Not much better than Ray with no ankles, if not worse.

Mayo did play some pretty terrific defense, and was a surprisingly decent distributor throughout the series.

I don't see Mayo getting that much money.  he's looking at maybe, MAYBE, MLE money at best.  he's a SG that hasn't shown much in the past year and been deposed by TA in the starting lineup.

maybe Chicago or the Clips take a flyer on him for the MLE to plug that SG hole they each have.  Other than them, I don't think anyone else be offering more than $4 mill a year for 2-3 years.

(my initial response was "If he was worth 8-10 mill he'd be Miracle Whip not Mayo" but I already played the Mustard remark.  Couldn't help myself and just had to get that one in anyway.   ;D  )

I'd love Ray back for 1 year, maybe two at the right money and as our assasin / microwave off the bench role.

Same for KG but as a starter at center, and with a condition. We also sign a real deal, legit back up center for him to give him significant rest when needed throughout the season, meaning possibly even a game or two off, on a schedule. Help extend his career and his effectiveness while on the court.

  • Let's Go Celtics!
OJ mayo did not want to come.

he went as far as saying "i dont care about the banners"

also:

Quote
Boston apparently wanted Mayo ($5.6 million), Mike Conley ($6.5 million), Dante Cunningham ($2 million) and rookie Josh Selby ($550,000) in a large transaction that included draft picks. It's unclear who the Celtics would have sent the Griz in addition to Allen ($10 million) to satisfy the nearly $15 million swap in salaries.

I read the same thing about Mayo nixing it and a slightly different version where Memphis thought DA was asking for too much.  Looking at the details above, it wouldn't be too hard to believe that. Either way, it wasn't as if DA didn't try.

I always took Donny Marshall's "OJ didn't want to come to Boston" story with a huge grain of salt. 1.) It was coming from Donny Marshall. 2.) It made no sense. If we acquired, we likely would've extended the QO this offseason making him a restriced FA, and giving Boston the right of first refusal on an offersheet. He really didn't have much leverage in terms of blocking a deal.

I know NO won't move their own pick, but I hope they look into moving Okafor to a team with cap space and throw in the Minnesota pick as an incentive to do it. that pick could turn into a guy like Perry Jones. Okafor's contract matches up with Pierce's deal and we could extend KG for two more years to match up with theirs as well.

KG: "Dude.... What is up with yo shorts?!"
