Potential Moves the Lakers Could Make With Gasol

Gasol for Big Baby and Jameer Nelson.

Gasol is washed up, Baby has a much better career ahead of him then Gasol.

Bynum is still big enough to protect the rim, and they get a veteran point guard and a tough big man with heart in glen davis.

Wow. Just wow. That might be the worst trade I've ever seen posted on this forum and I've seen some bad ones.

Trade a skilled 7 footer who averaged 17-10 shooting 50% this season for a big man that shoots 42%, is several inches shorter, and gets half as many rebounds and a point guard who has lost his speed and also shoots 42%.

I guess the mediocre at best Glen Davis is still seen through green colored glasses?

Gasol is way past his prime, he only has one or two years left at most of playing at a medium to high level. After that hes done. Hes already fallen off a cliff in terms of ability.

I wouldnt trade any young assets for him to be honest. He isnt worth much anymore, this post season also killed his trade value, the offers LA was getting last year for him wont be offered again. Hes basically worth role-players and picks.

LA wont get a star or fringe star player for him. Hes done.

Even if he is done, Jameer Nelson is in an even more noticeable decline and Glen Davis is a backup big at best.  You can't be a serious contender with a big man who shoots 42%.

Both guys you listed have negative trade value.  I'll take a declining, washed up, and off a cliff 17-10 over that garbage any day.

Orlando couldn't salary dump Jameer Nelson and Glen Davis if they tried.

Pau Gasoft has no heart and hasnt had heart for the past 2 years. Playoffs dont lie. I wouldnt trade any star player for him.

First, there is a huge difference between trading a star player for someone and trading garbage like Jameer Nelson and Glen Davis for them.  How about a middle ground?

Second, those are the same things people said about Gasol after KG punked him in the 08 Finals.  Gasol then helped the Lakers in the 09 Finals and the 10 Finals.  He was an integral part of two rings.

Third, saying a guy has "fallen off a cliff" and his skills are in decline and saying he has no heart are two different things.  I'd much rather take a heartless Gasol and take a chance that I can light a fire under a very skilled 7 footer than take Orlando's trash.

Gasol is a heck of a player.  The poor guy has been stuck playing with KoMe and for that coach with the history of getting steamrolled by his top player.  Kobe has that franchise by the hairs, just like Lebron did in Cle.

Gasol just wasn't going to thrive consistently in that situation.

Kobe has to tell his teammates to shoot because they're walking on eggshells waiting for his permission to do anything.

Still, due to age and being slightly past-peak, he won't draw the return he would've just a year ago.  Only one true asset plus matching money (either a high pick, or a good player/prospect plus a mid-pick, and fodder).

For LA to make out in a Gasol trade, they're going to need to be sharp and make something out of the pick or fodder they get...

Unless they package Gasol with a pick(s) (or Sessions) and go for someone like Deron Williams in a S&T...that's an LA-type of move.

Well yes it's not just ZBO straight up. Maybe a 2nd rounder and a future pick should be included. Clearly Randolph is not who he was a year ago.

I disagree with Lee.

I think it's fair on account that Lee is younger, and is owed less money while he can do pretty much Pau does except for shot blocking.

But maybe to sweeten the deal another player should be added. But definitely not Klay. Thompson is becoming a very good scorer. I'd probably give Dor-El or RJ instead. That should be fair.

While I doubt my hometown Warriors would do that, I would do it in a heartbeat though. Gasol and Bogut (provided he's healthy) is a formidable front court to deal with.

In all seriousness, I think this is probably the trade that ends up getting done. And I do think it'll be a shame because playing alongside Kobe will be a waste for Kyle Lowry.

My hope is that the mutual wishes to part ways drives the price down on Gasol.

The Iguodala scenario would stink. I've spent the last ten years hoping that Iggy ends up playing next to a superstar, as I think he'd thrive as a poor man's Scottie Pippen. It'd stink to see it proven right on the Lakers next to Kobe.
