Well, that untarnished Good Sports Town reputation was nice while it lasted.  Shame.  Luckily there seem to be no fatalities.

Wow...sad.

Good thing that there were two arrests made.

I have to wonder where those two person's sports interests lie.....

God forbid these two are Laker fans, it would be sad, BUT this would be very small sample size of the Laker fans I know. The ones I've chatted with over at SS & R are loyal, love their team, but do have some sense, lol.

OR - it could've been rabid OKC fans...I suppose the truth will come out soon.

I'm pretty sure Boston has significantly worse crime than LA... and I've lived in both.  Just sayin'!  (That being said, I'd live almost anywhere over OKC...)

Update by The Associated Press via ESPN.Com:

Quote
OKLAHOMA CITY -- At least eight people were shot late Monday blocks from Chesapeake Energy Arena after the NBA playoff game between the Thunder and the Los Angeles Lakers, Oklahoma City police said.

Capt. Dexter Nelson said some scuffles broke out in a crowd of people walking east toward the Bricktown district, a popular nightlife area.

"Some girls got into it with a group of guys, and the guys opened fire on the women," Nelson said.

He said the shooting occurred at 11:35 p.m. Police know of at least eight people wounded in the incident, but Nelson did not have information on their ages or genders. He said one victim was in critical condition while the others sustained nonlife-threatening injuries.

Nelson said earlier reports of two suspects being arrested were not accurate. He said police stopped one vehicle near the incident and had detained and questioned the occupants. However, he said it was unclear how or even if the vehicle's occupants were involved in the shooting.

Nelson said the investigation was ongoing.

So there have NOT been any arrests made - my bad from earlier post.

Are you sure about Boston having more crime than LA?  That seems a little off.

Far more crime per capita.

That's a bit disingenuous, because when people talk about Los Angeles they aren't actually referring to the City of L.A., but rather the Greater Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana metropolitan area. The L.A. area is subdivided into a number of different towns, cities, and counties, that from a cultural stand-point are all one greater area, but socioeconomically and politically are considered to be very different. It would be kind of like comparing Boston to Brooklyn while ignoring Manhattan and Queens, or something like that.

Just saying.

Anyway, not to disparage Middle America, but Oklahoma is one of those states where lots of people have guns. When a large group of people with lots of guns gets very drunk and rowdy, things like this unfortunately can occur.

Well, to be fair, I don't know much outside of the actual city limits L.A. as I'm not from there, only lived there for a few years, and never left the actual city limits.  Additionally, Long Beach and Santa Ana are both in that statistical study and both have crime rates comparable to L.A. city as well.  Additionally, I'm not quite sure why comparing city to city isn't fair.  I never felt unsafe in East L.A.

I live in Brooklyn now and likening Manhattan --> Brooklyn to Los Angeles --> Santa Ana is a bit disingenuous itself.  I mean, Santa Ana is 40 miles from where I lived in L.A.

Hey Wahz, easy there Pancho.

I still don't buy those wikipedia statistics.  I have felt much safer in Boston then my many visits to LA.  But that is just personal preference I guess.

That's why statistics exist; to refute arguments based on individual experience.  Perhaps you haven't ventured into good areas of LA or bad areas of Boston with regularity.

Also, they aren't Wikipedia statistics, they're FBI statistics regurgitated into an easy-to-access table.
