18 million a year.

Cant believe some people here were interested in him, and would even move Rondo for him.

Hes a scrub.

I don't think Mike Brown is using him right.

He is one of the most skilled low post players in the game, but Mike Brown is trying to make him a mid range shooter, he is better that though.

Also, for the record, I love Rondo, and did not want anything told do with that trade, but, it wasn't because of Gasol's 'declining' talent, it was more because I believe that Rondo has the chance to be a superstar,if he isn't already in some people's minds.

I agree, I don't think Brown uses him right. Gasol is too talented to not be the central post up player on a team, where he can use his vast skillset to either score or find open teammates. Unfortunately, for him he has Bynum there. And since Bynum's game is not suited for the high post, Gasol is limited from many low post looks. That said, I wonder what the chances are of the Buss kids, who reportedly want to slash payroll, to give some serious thought to using the amnesty on him this summer. The Lakers cap  will be over 62M without including Bynum, Hill, or Sessions.

probably the most talented big man in the game.  I'm thrilled the Lakers coaching staff have no idea how to use him properly.  Let's hope the Thunder finish them off before LA realizes what a huge advantage they have.

As one of those who were interested in trading Rondo for Pau (back in Febuary), I'm glad that trade didn't happen.

Rondo hasn't been perfect since Febuary, but boy has he been very, very, VERY good - certainly the best PG in the game since then.

I can agree with those who say that Mike Brown isn't using him the right way. Thanks, Mike.

I think some of his performance can be attributed to Serge Ibaka. Serge has gotten better, smarter and more experienced, and he has simply intimidated that frontline of LAs. But, even as I type, I remember that he didn't play well vs Faried, either.

Lakers have obviously moved away from Pau and are apparently coveting Drew in the post. He is their future. Once LA loses in OKC on Monday (thankfully), LA will have some choices to make, and hopefully Pau could be on the move.

I'm not sure how much he is owed financially, but if he could fit economically for us, I certainly wouldn't mind the Big Guy in Green - as long as we didn't have to give up Rondo or anyone else. I do realize that that is unlikely, though.

Just wishing.

He is on the decline, but I still think he has some effective years left in him.

Too bad Monday will be the last we see of him this season.

Top ten player in the league -- nothing wrong with his game. Only thing wrong is how his coach is using him.

proof that Mike Brown sucks as a coach.

his poor numbers are killing me in the PAPOUG playoffs and it's due to Brown not knowing how to effectively use him

Mike Brown was a bad hire and most everyone knew he simply rode LeBron's coat tails.

I don't know about that. Brown has always been a very good defensive coach. Surprisingly, this year - the Lakers are only 13th in defensive efficiency and 10th in offensive.

A lot of people like to hate on Brown's offensive play calling but when he was in Cleveland, they always had one of the most offensively efficient teams in the league.

I'm not sure that some people know what this term means, based upon its usage in the forums lately.

good point.

though i think also that such characterizations are the product of a simple and dichotomous world view. for me, too often, a number of discussants seem to assume an "either-or" universe.

that is, a player (person, place, idea, thing, aardvark, etc.) is either terrific or they are cast into the bowels of hell, perhaps somewhere around the eighth ring or so.

certainly not all posters do this, but i wanted to drone on a bit about an annoying practice i see frequently here and elsewhere.

all done. now you may rejoin our cb discussion currently in progress.

Or...(speaking specifically to Roy and hwangini_1, here), the use of the word "scrub" is a playful word to throw around when talking about football, basketball, etc - players who are either terrible or just had a bad game or whatever. Just didn't perform well.)

I've used it, myself and I just graduated on yesterday from ECPI University with a degree in Computer Science - Network Security. I also have a rather wide worldview as someone who just retired after 20+ years of service in the U.S. Navy. During that time in the Navy, I served with so many diverse folk, from all over, and guess what:

I heard a few servicemembers..serving their country proudly - using the word "scrub", LOL. They, WE, often used it right after a game that we just watched, using it to describe a player or players who just didn't play well that game.

Here is the dictionary definition of the word "scrub":

"an offensive term for somebody regarded as small or insignificant". Or, "a player not on the first string or a team made up of such players"

I actually first heard the word "scrub" used by my History teacher way back when I was in high school. The man was definitely educated, and could throw around BIG WORDS (like dichotomous) whenever he wanted. BUT - he could also make word use fun and make us laugh when we all talked about sports together. One of the ways he did just that was by calling players "scrubs."

My point is this: The word isn't offensive...it passes this forums "filter"...it is not a cuss word (like I've seen some members here slip up and use), and, for me - I still get a kick out of using it myself, from time to time.

So let me (and Stackshow) and a few others, if they choose - use "Scrub". :). IMO, the use of such words lightens up this place (especially NOW, with BOS losing like they just did).

If we start singling out poster's use of certain words here, then IMO we ALL will be busy.

Just my two cents...not meant to challenge anyone here or anything. I just found it rather odd with Roy's comments about the word, and then hwangini_1's comments about it.

I've monitored this blog for over 5 years now, after finally joining it in Oct 09. I've (unfortunately) seen cases where (always after a tough loss by our team), we start nit-picking little things (like this).

We are ALL upset. But let's not start getting choosy about word use around the blog. :)

I don't think scrub is being used in a particularly light-hearted context.  Rather, as applied it's meant to belittle and insult players.

There are lots of words that can be used offensively that aren't profanity.  "Idiot", "moron", "jerk", etc. aren't picked up by our filter, either.

Ray Allen isn't a "scrub".  Neither is Pau Gasol.  People who think they are don't know what the word means, or are using it incorrectly.

gb1819..all in all a nicely non-dichotomous post.  :) i think you posted an excellent idea...and all in all i enjoy reading posts such as yours on cb.

next...Roy... as ever, a good point on the use of the term scrub. what is it being invoked and how is it being? after all, language does count.

thanks...and of course a tp to both of you.  :)

EDIT: i apologize for high jacking a thread on gasol (whom i respect and wish the celtics could have without trading rondo) into a more general thread on discourse.
