  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Here is what Ira WInderman says about it:

Quote from: Sun-Sentinel
Q: Ira, when are you or someone going to say something about Dwyane Wade and his childish behavior? I only get the games on TV, but know you have to see this in person: He never gets back on defense. He's always complaining about foul calls, and then the other four guys are scrambling. And he'll be lucky if his body block on Darren Collison doesn't get him suspended. When is someone going to say something to him? -- Zach, Coconut Creek.

A: You know what? You're right, someone has to. With the margin of difference so razor thin at this point with Chris Bosh out, the last thing the Heat can afford is to be defending four on five. It happened several times Tuesday and has happened a bunch of times in these playoffs. Yes, Wade thought he was fouled prior to his foul on Collison, but that's not how a captain should act. Do I think anything more is done with his flagrant? No, it was that type of game. But it could have led to a four-point possession in a game when points were hard to come by. Your point not only is well-made, but one worth addressing privately by the Heat.

Here is what they said at The Score (the Canadian version of ESPN, and home to The Basketball Jones)

You could certainly argue that the foul should be ruled a flagrant-2, as it appeared to contain unnecessary and excessive contact. You could even argue that Wade deserves a suspension for it, but let's be real here: David Stern's not going to let a superstar get suspended for a play like that in the playoffs.

Pretty quiet otherwise, though.

Somewhere, Kevin McHale is reading this blog and wondering what happened to Celtics nation.

And this is why I want 80's/90's basketball back.  Let Wade do that back in the day and he gets dumptrucked next time he drives to the basket.  He'd learn his lesson real quick.

Unfortunately, in today's wimpy NBA, doing so would earn a 10+ game suspension.  All while the original instigator goes free, because he's a "superstar".

I can just imagine now what Charles Oakley would do to this scum bag.
ahhh 80's or earlier would have been an immediate fight or scuffle, next drive wade did he'd get knocked down good and hard
imagine how great the really good players would have been pre jordan years with the blatant favoritism that has been around since then  ::)

I haven't found one story calling for a suspension on this yet.

You won't.  At least not until it's too late.

ESPN being the mouthpiece for the NBA sure won't.  The other major media outlets probably don't get enough national attention to matter anyways.

Wade honestly deserves a bit of a reputation at this point. I used to argue against labeling his actions as intentionally malicious, but he's keeps doing stuff like this.

Well, what's happened is, the NBA has made it clear this type of non-basketball play is against the rules.  Except when the offending party is a superstar, who just happens to be teammates with the chosen one.

Simply put, if the NBA is going to see fit to suspend any other player, why should Wade not be treated the same.  I personally would have no problem with Wade not being suspended if it were not for the fact the players are no longer allowed to police the game themselves.

I hope he doesnt get suspended, i like that foul.  Old school playoff foul.

He got the flagrant, the Pacers won the game, and i hope someone gets a chance to pay Wade back for it - as in Paul George or David West - not David Stern.

If David West tries to get even with Wade, he will be ejected and/or suspended. Count on it. Also...there is a difference between a hard foul (from the NBA that I miss) and a dangerous foul. What Wade did was dangerous.

West will get ejected and suspended, but not because of the implied superstar rules.

He'd get it because it would come off as pre-meditated.

Yeah...And there would be old school retaliation back when players policed themselves.

I'm not saying the league shouldn't suspend him, but there's people freaking out about it and calling Wade bush league. if Wade is bush league, then McHale is bush league.

I have seen a lot of comments about this play on the internet with everyone linking a vid. Most say he deserves a suspension but then says something like:

"But we all know David Stern isn't going to suspend Dwyane Wade in the playoffs"

Saw that on no less than 5 separate sites.

Clearly that was a similar foul to this and that's why it was called the same

I here Sean Payton is out of work. Maybe the Pacers can hire him as a consultant and have him coach up Louis Amundson and Jeff Pendergraph.

NBA is not upgrading or further punishing Wade per Windhorst.

Wade will continue to headhunt unabated.
