It would have been egregious for the referees not to make that call.

Not really.  Go back and watch the game again.  There was illegal clutching and grabbing on literally every half court play.  That screen was no worse than the stuff both teams were getting away with.

Yes, it's a foul, and rules are rules.  However, when you randomly start calling the game differently than you have all game to the detriment of only one team (i.e., last night's game, Game 7 in 2010), it ends up unfairly skewing the final result.

Donny Marshall made one of the most idiotic remarks I've ever heard about the call. Said making that call is disrespectful to Garnett and the game.

So it’s ok with Marshall for the officials, out of respect to Garnett and the “game”, to disrespect the other 23 players competing? Not to mention both coaches, The rest of the teams in the playoffs, the fans, AND the game…To not make the proper call?

Folks, This is how Tim Donaghy was born and bred into Mark Davis, the Crawford Brothers, the cadaver, Scott Foster, etc.

Stating the obvious here….Donny Marshall, you are a blithering idiot.

Call the [dang]ed game by the rules.  Not only in the first quarter to "set a tone".  Not randomly.  Not based on the player's status.  Just call the game by the rulebook and let the players decide the outcome.

The fan deserves better.  The players deserve better.

If I didn't mention it....Donny Marshall...You are a blithering idiot.

I basically agree.  A play with 6 minutes left in the 1st quarter should be called the same way as one with 6 seconds left in the 4th.

At the same time, if you're not going to call the game by the rule book, at least call it consistently.  Don't swallow your whistles, and then randomly punish one team by making a call by the book down the stretch.

to be fair, the illegal screen by KG in the last few seconds was worse than the non-calls earlier in the game.  KG went over the line, that is why it was called when it was.

Agree with both Roy and Moranis here.

The problem is where stuff like this leads.

If the NBA's interest is to avoid any appearance of impropriety...Then call the game by the rules regardless of situation.  That would breed the consistency that everybody seems to want.  The players would decide the outcome because they would adjust.  (If the officials were ordered to suddenly do that...What an adjustment it would be)

I agree with the ones who are wondering where the whistle was on earlier plays. That's the  bigger problem.

That was a foul on KG, but I remember KG's jersey getting tugged when he was going up for a shot and there was no call. The consistency in the calls didn't exist, and that's the kind of thing that people make youtube documentaries on whole series over (see 2002 Lakers vs Kings WCF)

it was a foul...but they swallowed their whistles for less egregious stuff all game long. brand was pulling KG's jersey plenty of times with no call. there was that horrible travel by philly down the stretch that wasn't called (and got them 2 points). the off-the-ball calls on KG were 100% due to collins trying to work the refs leading up to (and during) the game, because...yeah, they were definitely looking to call KG for that. i think doc will play this up a little (but not too much) before wednesday night. i wouldn't be shocked if the game ends up being called differently.

time and again, our switches have been so active, but mostly its off for whatever reason..but that call on garnett was a complete hogwash..it's just sad that we are on the receiving end of such a terrible call at a very critical time, really with igoudala's might and strength, garnett can easily sway him on the side? i know what that was, it's the infamous flop on the loose..that was one worth reviewing by stern and his cohorts to really eradicate this "disease" amongst the players in this league..a no call at best should have been the case there, the referee took upon his hands the result of the game, not by the players on the court..

Really think we deserved to win this game??? KG certainly looked like the kid with his hand in the cookie jar. Even Doc couldn't argue that call. It's part of KG's resume.

I'm going to agree with those who thought is was a foul, but couldn't understand the timing.
I was under the impression the refs hed swallowed their whistles when i think it was Evens stumbled about 7 steps from the fould line, everyone stopped waiting for the travel to be called and he layed the ball in.
I mean either let them play or call the game.

That being said, they played like crap and deserved to loss.

By Evens, I'm guessing you are referring to Evan Turner.  The reason that play wasn't a travel was because Ray Allen got his hands on it and caused him to bobble it, making it a loose ball for an instant.  When Turner regathered the ball and laid it in, it was not a travel as he hadn't had possession of it.

I can't find the video so I could be wrong, but I don't think Turner lost possession of the ball. Just because a defender gets his hand on the ball doesn't mean you can keep shuffling your feet. Either it's a jump ball, a travel, or you need to actually lose possession, no?

It would have been egregious for the referees not to make that call. Even for KG, that is a terrible foul. Not enough blame is being put on him for being put in that position.
Sure. Can I now have the 4 free throws that we're owed for Pierce and Bass being hacked on layups under the basket?
Yeah, that was what got me most upset.

The C's couldn't buy a jumpshot and Pierce/Bass started driving and getting whacked and it resulted in I think only one or two trips to the line and a bunch of "TOs" or "missed shots" as they got whacked repeatedly.

since when does deserving to win the game became an issue here?no matter how ugly the game was played, no celtic fan would be so hypocritical to just hand it over to the opposing team because you thought they don't deserve to win it, c'mon?you will be lying by the skin of your teeth if you say that..by any means we could have won it if it was not called and capitalized on it with a good attempt to the basket..had we won, i don't see anybody here wanting to reward the game to philly instead because you clearly saw garnett making a "blatant" move on a hapless sixer running through a screen..will you?
