As i see it, the one position we need is an upgrade is PF. we have our starting 4 set in stone providing KG resigns. Rondo, Bradley, PP, KG at Center.
What this team was crying out for against the Heat was an elite defender who could defend 3's, 4's and jump shooting 5's like Bosh when he plays center.
The team that we have to worry about most going forward are the Thunder and Heat, Lebron and Durant . Jsmoothe is probably the only guy in the league capable of defending both one on one. Maybe TA but he doesn't have the length to guard them in the post.
Step forward Josh Smith, the most realistic target we could get. Rondo's best friend from their Oak Hill days, entering the last year of his contract and on record as saying he wants to leave Atlanta.
We have several trade chips at our disposal. Two Number one picks and the ability to sign and trade both bass and Ray. I expect a team to overpay for both. Ray is redundant as Bradley will be on the floor in crunch time and you can pay a guy more than 7 million a year just to be a tutor to the young players on the team. I love Ray but he doesn't fit on this team anymore unfortunately.
History has proven that someone will overpay for bass, he's sure to opt out of his 4 million player option and PF is the position where we have to upgrade. Im a big fan on bass, but with KG quarterbacking the defensive we need an elite shot blocker on the floor in front of him.
Will Bass be Posey (Get paid and get fat) or Tony Allen (a perpetual All Defensive Team player) In hindsight letting TA go for a measly 3 million more than Memphis ending up paying him was probably Dannys worst mistake as a GM.
Not to digress from the original point, this team is crying out for a guy that can guard elite players one on one, shot block and rebound. J Smoothe seems the ideal player if we are to upgrade the PF position.
