Well....how DESPERATE is he.....

Is he desperate enough to take a paycut...work his salary so that we can bring back KG, Ray, Bass and Jeff Green (or Wilcox, Stiemer, Hollins)?

All of us are desperate...but just how much does he WANT to play for a WINNER...especially while KG is still here?

Gotta give up something...sacrifice....in order to get something, Josh.

I'd LOVE to have him in Green. That's been my stance all along.

But WHAT is he willing to sacrifice for that?

Those 17 Banners came with a LOT of sacrifice.

He is under contract next year so he isn't coming to Boston unless the Celtics trade for him.

And this is the issue with C's fans. So snooty. A player like Josh shows interest in wanting to come here and the attitude is "well, if he's willing to play for well under his market value, then he'll do." But players like D12 and CP3 who want no part of Boston, people are ready to throw the kitchen sink at them to get them.

The Celtics would have to renounce, KG, Allen and all other free agents including Bass to bring Josh Smith in. If that's the method than no thanks. I really don't see any other scenario where he comes here. Bass and Allen sign and trade, perhaps? That would have to be considered. Especially with the emergence of Bradly.
Given his desire to leave (and join us as it seems) and given ATL financial struggles after putting money on JJ, Horford and Williams, I think a trade of :
Bass + JJ Jonhson + one of our first rounder will be enough!!
And in case we can't get him for that then I would go with Ersan Ilyasova... (who can spread the floor and run the fast break...)
I'm just giving up on Bass especially if he requires more money..

I actually think he is worth his contract for all the things he does, now if he wants a gigantic raise that is a different issue, but 15 million a year for a solid #2 is about right.  I mean that is what Tyson Chandler makes and I'd much prefer Josh Smith to him.

Well...I don't know if I'd take Josh over Tyson...interesting idea, though.

As for Josh's worth? Well, being that Lebron, Wade and Bosh all took minimal cuts to get together - if Josh was faced with such a situation to come to BOS (and keep KG, Ray and a few others like I posted earlier), I'd hope that he at least considers it.

The man definitely has leadership in him, though. But again - coming to BOS means you sacrifice...ESPECIALLY if he gets here with Paul, Ray and KG still here.

I wouldn't expect him to become 5th or 6th fiddle in such a scenario, but he definitely wouldn't be TOP DOG..at least until Paul, KG or Ray retires. And with Rondo, he'd have to submit to HIS leadership, too. He'd probably have to retool his game - as Doc fits him in, as well.

None of this scenario is likely, though, being that he is still under contract as some have pointed out to me. But he is still an intriguing player.

And don't forget..for the naysayers out there...if Josh somehow gets to BOS, then could DWIGHT be far behind?

I'd take Smith in a heartbeat. Would pair great with Rondo and with KG too.

I think Josh Smith is worth around $11-12 million per year and with some achievable improvements to his game could be worth $13-14 million.

Sign Deron Williams this offseason.  Trade Rondo for Josh Smith.  Atlanta will jump at it.  We get an upgrade at PG and a replacement big man for Kevin Garnett when he retires.

(dodges tomatoes)

... if Ray and KG decide to sign for cheap we can field a team of PG - Deron Williams, SG - Bradley/Ray, SF - Pierce, PF - Josh Smith, C - KG ... Heck, if Ray and KG want to sign for the vet minimum we might even have enough money to sign Jeff Green and Bass too.

(dodges beer mugs)

Fine.  Be that way.  If Smith wants to play here he'll have to wait until next offseason when he's a free agent.  I'm not sure if we'll have cap space, though.  By then Ray and KG will be gone.  Pierce will probably be done too.  WE can build around Rondo, Smith and late 1st round mediocre talent.

the problem is when you trade Rondo i don't think KG will resign with us. He loves that boy so much. On topic i still hope Danny stays away from Smith, please sign/trade for Ilyasova instead.

Smith wants to play with Rondo, his buddy, not for the Celtics.  So all these trade Rondo threads in this thread don't make sense for that reason.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Josh Smith may want to be a Celtic, but I imagine a lot of his remarks are motivated more by dissatisfaction with playing for a dysfunctional organization that has been prone to infighting, and an often apathetic and ungrateful fan base. He wants to play for a real team with real fans.

I'm begining to think Smith is going to pull a "Melo" and force his way out of Atlanta.  He is obviously not happy playing there.  On multiple occasions now, Smith has stated he wants to be traded and he would love to play for a team "like the Celtics".  Oh, and there's that little nugget of Smith and Rondo being long-time friends.

The question is, does Atlanta see the writing on the wall?  Smith has only 1 year remaining on his contract before becoming a free agent.  It is highly possible the Celtics will have money to persue free agents in 2013.  Atlanta stands a very real chance of losing Smith for nothing if they don't make a move.  Seems like a perfect storm for Smith to be traded here this upcoming off-season/season.

So, does Danny desire Smith and do the Celtics have the trade chips necessary to make it happen?

It's always either trade Rondo or stink it up whenever a rumor even remotely related to Rondo is brought up. There's no in between.

You'd probably end up losing out if you trade Rondo since his contract is smaller than it should be. There are other free agents in 2013 (unlike in 2012).

Plus, Smith is friends with Rondo. As Celtic fans you should know how important chemistry is.

Anyway, after this season, how can anyone be so certain Deron Williams + Josh Smith + mediocre first round talent > Rondo + Josh Smith + mediocre first round talent?

And how do you know that the big three won't leave the moment you trade Rondo because unlike many here, they have quite a high opinion of Rondo (as celticslove pointed out). Rondo is like family to them.
