That'd be an amazing move for LA, though the pairing of Smith/Bynum would be volatile to say the least!!!

I have my doubts that Atlanta would pull the trigger, if Teague wasn't included I think there is a big chance they'd do it.

They just need a 'glue guy' to tie the parts together.  That Smith jumper at the end last night pretty much defined why the Hawks are the Hawks. But their current group is ready to step to the next level - they just need a smart basketball guy who can move the ball in their half court offense and get it where it needs to go at the right time.

Atlanta is a very solid team with a solid core. But to fix this team going forward I'd trade Josh Smith.

My idea revolves around making Al "jerkface" Horford slide to PF and solidify the bench for whatever ATL would net for Smoove, even if it's 75 cents for the dollar. But there has to be atleast a top 12 pick involved.

Horford can manage to play 4 i believe. He's mobile and athletic enough to cover other 4's. ATL should take whatever Smith nets them (best deal of course), and focus on signing Spencer Hawes.

Hawes I believe compliments Horford, especially offensively as he can go outside the paint as he's a good 17 - 18 feet shooter. Then say if I land a top 10 pick and some role players for Josh, that solidifies the ATL bench. Say trade Smith to NO for Ariza and a 1st (that's plausible, NO has no PF after Landry's contract expires), they'll have a core of...

Another year as is. Try to draft smart and add a smart FA.

I mean, people are considering the Celts contenders, right? well they beat the Hawks in 6 games, several of them last second affairs that could have gone either way and they were missing possibly their best player for 4 of those games! Additionally, every key player should still stay at the same level (JJ, Smith, Williams) or get better (Horford, especially teague) over the next 2-3 seasons as the C's probably continue to regress, Orlando implodes, Indiana does ?, Chicago ? and Miami ?. They are in a position to build a strong 2-3 year contender that needs a bounce or two to go their way to sneak into the finals (sometimes that's what it takes).

Getting lucky and finding a near All-Star caliber player in the back half of the draft is probably a more likely path to success than "blowing it up".  Joe Johnson and Al Horford both have their contracts run out in 2015-2016.  Horford is signed as a good value and Johnson is pretty much untradeable.  It's kind of pointless to do any salary dumps until Johnson's contract runs out, except to avoid the luxury tax.  Of course, they can always amnesty JJ, but that's probably something they should hold back on while Johnson is still a good player who is massively overplayed.

I'd be intrigued with the idea of getting whatever you can for Marvin Williams and signing Steve Nash for the MLE, either starting Teague as a SG or having him be a combo guard off the bench (if not packaged with Williams).

The Hawks would be in pretty good shape for next season if they use their MLE well, by luck or by scouting get a rotation-caliber player in the draft, and find another player out of nowhere who give the same level of contribution as Ivan Johnson did this season.  Even two out of three wouldn't be bad.

Yeah, probably so (salary dump).

Trading a non-elite PG for value is so tough in the league nowadays with all the quality PGs around. Not sure what Atlanta could get with that type of a package.

Yeah, I think it makes sense for Atlanta if it's Smith + one of Teague/Williams

But it may be too difficult to it make work if it's both Teague and Marvin ... it'd be hard to rebuild that supporting cast in time (to create a genuine title challenger) given Pau Gasol's age and the likelihood that he only has a few high level years left in him.

Gasol's playing out of position.  The rise of Bynum has greatly disjointed his game.  As a full-time 5, he's still an elite player.

Gasol's playing out of position.  The rise of Bynum has greatly disjointed his game.  As a full-time 5, he's still an elite player.

They're asking to to play like Brandon Bass and space the floor for much of the game. Moving his game to the perimeter has done Gasol a great diservice.

They need a new coach that can actually give them some structure and get them to play hard every night. i would love to see what a Sloan, Brown or Jackson could do with the talent on the Hawks.
