Revisiting the Rondo-for-CP3 discussions (poll)

As we all remember, Danny Ainge offered Rajon Rondo in trade discussions for Chris Paul.  Speculation suggested that the offer could have been centered around Rondo, Green, and a pick for Paul.

A season later, what do you think?  Would the Celts be better had they made that trade?  Would the Hornets have preferred that package to what they ended up with?

Firstly, Hornets would definitely be better, as they had problems with Kaman all season and Gordon spent the season injured. Rondo would alone give them flexibility to move Jarrett Jack to 2 and a respectable backcourt, although it would come along with some defensive issues.

As for the Celtics, well, personally, I see Paul as a better point guard than Rondo, but not by far, so, Celtics would have been marginally better or even with the present.

In Hindsight Hornets got a sweet deal. A 20ppg scorer, a good center, an upcoming wing players, and a lottery pick.

Didn't like it then & and am still just as glad now it didn't happen.

CP3 might be slightly better overall (although personally I do not agree), but he is in no way worth the difference in their respective salaries'.

Who knows how Paul would have meshed with the Big 3. Remember he didn't want to be traded to Boston in the first place.

He could have been a great asset and instant hero on ths Celtics club.  Not sure it would have been a good move for Rondo, he may have had a harder time adjusting.  It just isn't in Pauls upbringing to be part of the Celtics.  He is too biased to change...the Celtics are evil and the Lakers GOOD.

so I'm happy he is CA where he belongs

  It's kind of hard to discuss because of Green. How good would he be if he was healthy? Who would the Celts have had to include instead of him?

Can you imagine what it would have been like if the Hornets had agreed to a trade of Rondo, Green and picks to only have Green fail the physical and nullify the trade?!? A disgruntled Rondo would have killed us therefore probably forcing Danny's hand into some type of a trade where we get almost nothing in return for Rondo.

This triple double garbage is getting a little carried away.  I understand that versatility and multiple skills and contributing in many ways is cool and all, but didn't Rondo take 22 shots to get 17 points?  7 for 22 from the field?  I mean, he played alright, but lets not give him league MVP for reaching double digits in 3 categories.

Which game would you rather have (and this is purely hypothetical) -

Player A - 10 points (4-20 FG, 0-3 3PT, 2-4 FT), 10 rebounds, 10 assists, 7 turnovers

Player B - 34 points (10-20 FG, 2-4 3PT, 12-14 FT), 18 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 turnover

Player A has a "triple double".  Player B does not.

Which game would you rather have from your star player (hypothetical, could be anyone).

The point is, that not all triple double games are better than all non-triple double games.  Rondo having a triple double doesn't mean he has had a better playoff than Chris Paul or LeBron James or anyone else.

To piggyback on my last post, Jason Kidd has 105 triple doubles in his career.  Michael Jordan had 28.

It seems that some here would want a prime Jason Kidd over a prime Michael Jordan because of this one stat.

Triple doubles are nice but they are in no way, shape, or form a reason to conclude one player is better than another or one performance is better than another.

The Celtics would be better. Rondo is a great PG, but Paul is still better.

The Hornets would probably be worse off overall. Yes, Rondo would make the Hornets instantly better this year than they are currently. However, the Hornets would not have had as good of a shot at getting Anthony Davis. By bottoming out, the Hornets will be better if they win the lottery.
