Listening to the Radio/TV, the standard talk on the Celts-Hawks game was usually along the lines of "Rondo Leads Celtics" and usually a mention of how his stat line was so good.  From where I sat (which was on my couch) I didn't think Rondo had a very good game at all.  In fact, I think it is arguable that he was outplayed by Teague so I thought I would put this up for discussion/debate as well as offer a specific poll question.

Was that a great game by Rondo?  Does it matter that the Hawks didn't cover him and it still took him 22 shots to score 17 points?  Do 6 turnovers diminish his 12 assists (he did make some nice passes)?  Was this the weakest triple double ever?

Microcosm game for all that is Rondo.  Flashes of brilliance and periods of being a nonentity.  The box score looks good and they won the game, but there were definite moments where he was ineffective out there.  Teague was certainly more consistent.

Funny, I thought the same after the media's take on Pierce from Game 2.  Yes, Pierce came up big at points, but he had some major boneheaded turnovers and bricked a whole lot of ill advised shots too.

This team is far from perfect, but they battle.  Hopefully they can continue to find ways to win.
Yup

It wasn't a great game by Rondo.

He played really good, but not great for Rondo.

Teague played great for Teague.

With that said, Rondo had the better game.  He did a better job controlling the game while Teague did a better job hitting shots.

I thought Teague had a better game against Rondo.

For some reason, Rondo just feels like he needs to gamble 5 out of the 6 times he's guarding the man in front of him. Teague easily blew by him most of the time and either scored or got someone in a good position to score. Rondo needs to stay in front of Teague... he's too [dang] dangerous to mess around with.

Rondo also had some UGLY layup misses which frustrated the crap out of me, especially the ones at the end of the 4th quarter AND in overtime when he made that nice fakey but totally miss the most WIDE OPEN layup anyone could have made (including me).

Stuff like this angers me about Rondo but [dang] dude, he did have a triple double. He definitely helped his teammates. Turnovers got a bit out of hand.

Anyways, this was basically the most average triple double I've ever seen.

We won game 2 also but Rondo didn't help much with that one so what was "all" that?  Just because we won doesn't mean that Rondo had a good game.  I am glad we won and Rondo did contribute but so did Steisma (3 Rebs, 2 Blks in 6 Min).

Teague had a great game.  Took advantage of a lot of Celtic turnovers with his speed in the open court and got his teammates some key open looks with his penetration.

But his impact on the game was ultimately smaller than Rondo's, though that's not really his fault (Joe Johnson controlled the ball for almost all of the 4th quarter and OT).

Rondo was the only guy who could get the ball into the paint consistently against that Hawks D, either by penetration or nifty passwork.    His D has also been unfairly maligned here.  Sure he had a few mistakes on Teague, but not many (Teague did a lot of his damage in transition or on Bradley), and he was a generally active force contesting shots, pressuring the ball and the passing lanes and crashing the defensive boards.

Rondo gets the edge for taking over the game in overtime.

Rondo in overtime 2-5 FG (missed 2 lay-ups), 1-2 FT, 2 Rebs, and couple of nice passes for assists I think.

Took over?

Rondo played better overall, Teague was more efficient due to excellent transition work but in the half court he had far less of an impact.

Teague scored very well, but Rondo created a lot of possessions for the C's and we needed every one of them. If Rondo doesn't miss three layups late are you as torn about it VG?

Yes he took over in OT.

He got an extra possession for the C's, got two rebounds, scored the four points (when the game was still in doubt he actually have 5 total once the intentional fouls started), and drew Collins on one of his missed layups for an easy KG offensive board and dunk. Penetration like that makes offensive boards possible.

You seem overly concerned with his transition miss when his foot slid a bit and he missed.

Rondo did have a good game.  A triple double with some highlight reel plays.  Teague also had a good game.  Rondos game trumps Teagues because they both played well but Rondo and the Celtics got the W.  Not really sure what the relevance of game 2 is here.  Rondo didn't play, I know that.  The question asked was did Rondo outplay Teague in game 3.  I stated my opinion on game 3, who's talking about game 2?

It was a very quiet triple double for Rondo; wouldn't have known unless Gorman kept mentioning it.  Teague made a lot of individual great plays.  I don't know if he played better, but I think he had more impact for his team than Rondo last night.

If Rondo had hit a few more layups (say was 10-22 instead of 7-22) and maybe drew a few more fouls, then yes, his game would have been better overall.  Point is that Rondo did miss 15 shots (many of them easy wide open mid range or layups while his man was off double teaming Pierce) and had 6 TO to go with his 14 Rebs and 12 assists.

Not sure where to go with your argument.
