  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/celtics/post/_/id/4692914/referee-assignment-for-game-2

From ESPN

Quote
ATLANTA -- After referee Marc Davis became a central figure in this series with Rajon Rondo's BumpGate during Sunday's Game 1, here's a look at the referee assignments for Game 2: Scott Foster, Ed Malloy, Scott Wall.

It's a veteran crew with 45 years of experience between the three officials. The Celtics and Malloy have had their moments (he was on the crew for both Game 1 of the 2010 first-round series in which Kevin Garnett was ejected and tossed Paul Pierce from Game 1 of a 2011 conference semifinal series against the Heat).

Should be fun  ;D
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I never thought I would find myself hoping for Joey Crawford, but I am.

Me too, I long for the days of Joey Crawford, Eddie F Rush, and Dick Bavetta. At this point Bennette Salvatore would be a breath of fresh air.

There should be a rule that officials with a history of throwing out one teams players in the playoffs should not officiate in playoffs to avoid these issues.  I mean the league is setting itself up for the criticism by putting these guys on the floor.

If you acknowledge that there are officials who have a tendency to throw out certain players, and you don't acknowledge that they made the right call each and every time to the best of their abilities, impartially, you're implicitly acknowledging a bias on the part of the referees and calling the whole system's integrity into question.

So you're gonna see Joey Crawford reffing Mavs and Spurs games, and Malloy reffing Celtics games, almost because if you didn't, it would be acknowledging that they are biased for or against certain players.

Thinking outside the box....

I wish the league would allow an opportunity for both team to choose the refs. Sort of like choosing a jury.  ;) I mean since there are no ulterior motives from the refs and since they always remain impartial, then I don't think the league would object to this. If anything, it would be a gesture from the league that their integrity is well intact.

Its an interesting idea. It would only work during the playoffs, because of the time and logistics involving in picking the ref crews. Heck, it would probably only work during the Finals.

Honestly a much better gesture from the league would be to open their internal reports on referee audits.

I have to imagine that with the amount of games that each official refs a year, you'd be able to see a clear baseline for individual players, teams, venues, etc..

To expand further, I think that the officials for all the games should be made public at the beginning of each round. Why the mystery? Is it only for betting lines? If so, then that in itself is a clear indictment that the league acknowledges that certain referees officiate games much different than others.

The league already acknowledges a bias by switching up crews each game. If the refs were not biased, then it would make more sense to have the same crew for one series. Why move these guys around and pay for plane tickets etc when they could stay where they are.

Back to wanting Joe fired.

I always viewed that as keeping fresh faces for the players to get mad at.

I always thought that the different crews each game assured there was less grounds for accusations of bias. But you're right, if the refs were just emotionless automotons, why switch them up?

For those who aren't familiar with just the name, I've posted both a picture as well as a video of Ed Malloy below

Honestly though, separated at birth?

At this point Bennette Salvatore would be a breath of fresh air.

Yeah, I think his twin brother Steve Martin would like that.
