Los Angeles Lakers big man Jordan Hill has just been charged with felony assault for allegedly choking a family member during an altercation in Texas earlier this year ... TMZ has learned.

The charge was filed by the Harris County District Attorney in Houston. It's unclear whom Hill is accused of attacking.

The alleged incident took place on February 29. If convicted, Hill faces up to 10 years in prison.

24-year-old Hill was recently traded to the Lakers from Houston in exchange for Derek Fisher ... and has become a key member of the team.

Multiple attempts to reach a rep for Hill were unsuccessful.

Someone on realgm posted they are hearing he is done for the year on ESPN Radio LA

Quote
ESPN LA Radio, Jalen Rose and Colin Cowherd are saying he's done for the year to deal with this so if thats true its a crappy time for the Lakers.

He also just tweeted this.

    Wowwwww

I think this will be an underrated loss for the Lakers if it's true. He was actually starting to play and play well, another 7 ft athletic big man gone for the Fakers

I thought the league stays out of these things ? Where if he's arrested and bails himself they'll wait until he's convicted which could probably drag out till next season.

Why are the Lakers always able to obtain young lottery pick level bigs without giving anything up?  Because apparently some of those players face prison sentences.

Is it within the rules to not disclose information like that?

I honestly have no idea. Its not an injury, and unless court-ordered, it shouldn't stop him frmo playing if allowed to by the NBA, so I don't think so.

Either way it's very interesting news going forward. I dont't see how this can benefit Morey in the long run though, if he needs or wants to make another trade with the Lakers. If im Kupcheck im keeping it in the back of my mind he sold me a lemon.

Interesting. Hill had a great game the other day in game one of the playoffs. Double double, stepped it up big.

some updates from tmz
Quote
11:40 AM PDT: TMZ has obtained the police report describing the incident, and it reveals that the alleged victim is Hill's girlfriend, Darlene Luna.

According to the report, Luna dated Hill for 2 years.  Luna claims Hill assaulted her and left bruises on her legs and then tried to choke her.  It's interesting -- Luna's complaint to cops was lodged 1 month after the alleged incident.

The report says Luna was uncertain as to whether she'll press charges.

11:27 AM PDT -- A rep for the Lakers tells TMZ ... "We are aware of the media reports alleging an incident involving Jordan Hill from two months ago when he was a member of the Houston Rockets."

"We do not have any details regarding these reports and therefore, as well as due to the personal and legal aspects, it would not be appropriate for us to comment."

Wow. Maybe it's time the Lakers started scheduling group therapy after practice. For the safety of NBA guards and women everywhere.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Yeah I doubt he's done playing based on the facts so far.

Wow. I like Hill, too. Hope it works out for him for the good.

But pretty soon, Mike Brown's going to need to suit up.

All they need is a Bynum episode, and they are toast.

And Bynum's just about due for one.
