We grab offensive rebounds at the lowest rate in league history.

This accounts for how many times we grab rebounds as a percentage of missed shots. So this compensates for how accurate the C's are.

That's a good point. The higher FG% we shoot, the less opportunity there is to grab boards. Never mind the fact that the Celtics don't even make an attempt to grab a miss most of the time.

Part of it is that our bigs our primarily jump shooters, Doc has employed offensive rebounding bigs before. Notably Leon Powe, Perkins, and Glen Davis (2007-2008 and 2009-2010 he got offensive boards well)

Additionally Doc seems to have become more and more concerned with getting out run. Combination of scheme and personal leads to it.

The Celtics were dead last in 2010, 2011 and 2012. In 2009 they were ranked #20 and in 2008 they were ranked #23. So a #20 rank is the highest they've been in that category in the big 3 era. However, right before that time, with surely a much worse roster, they were middle of the pack.

I think it's more scheme than anything else at this point.

ORB% (which accounts for variances in pace and FG%) is a better measure than raw o-rebs per game.  By that measure the C's were the 7th best offensive rebounding team in the league in 08/09 and 17th in 07/08.

Unless the scheme dramatically changed after 2009, I think the issue is more to do with personnel: we don't have any above average offensive rebounding bigs on the team anymore.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

I think it's a matter of strategy that has devolved to farce as the team has aged.

I blame Bass. Dudes like 6'6 and plays pf like a sf.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Being a jump-shooting big doesn't have to mean you're a bad offensive rebounder.  See: Anderson, Ryan.

He's an exception, most jump shooting bigs don't cover the same sort of ground to get offensive boards.

Another factor is that the C's take a lot of long 2s, those shots produce fewer offensive boards compared to paint shots and 3s.
