Article says they're small, like a grain of sand.  Bone spurs tells me Ray is dealing with an inflammed tendon.  Bad news.

It's always tendons with this team that do us in.  KG, Shaq, and now possibly Ray.  All tendon issues.

Hopefully it's not so bad he can't play.  Also, SG happens to be our position of greatest depth.  It's possible we might be able to survive with out Ray for a bit.

An MRI has revealed tiny bone spurs (Allen said they are the size of a grain of sand), which appear to be the culprit. He said it was nowhere near the problem he had with his ankles in 2006-07, when he had larger bone spurs that necessitated surgery.

Im more concerned with Pietrus to be honest, Ray is just a spot up shooter nowadays, can easily plug in Moore or Dooling in his place.

Uh, if we have to rely on Moore and Dooling or even Bradley for that matter to cover for Ray we're in a bad way.

Bradley is a much better player then Ray at this stage in their careers, we will see if he still has confidence in the playoffs, but as far as right now, Bradley is the better player, Ray is just a spot up 3 point shooter right now that is old and cant defend for the most part, I wish him a speedy recovery but he is just a bench player this year, its up to the other guys to step up.

Ray isn't as bad as you think on defense and Bradley's still undersized

I can't think of a SG out there whose size makes me prefer that he be guarded by a healthy Ray Allen rather than Avery Bradley.

Kobe, Rip Hamilton, Joe Johnson.  Demar Derozan was having some success shooting over him.  Harden probably would as well.  Possibly Jason Richardson.

Any guard with both size and shooting ability will be able to handle Bradley.  Those I listed all fit both criteria, and therefore I'd rather have Ray to check them.  On the other hand, any guard who generates their offense through a lot of dribbling will hate playing against him.  Dwyane Wade, Monta Ellis, most point guards, etc.

Hmmm, well, not sure where you got the info from, but having a bone spur is not an automatic indication that someone is dealing with an inflamed tendon.

Bone spurs are generally related to age, (as in osteoarhritis), when the soft tissue and cartilege between bones breaks down and deteriorates, causing bones to rub together, or pressure and stress being applied more directly to the bone surface by exterior means.

This causes the bone to produce more of itself to repair the area in distress, and that build-up becomes a bump or spur, (which is not sharp, as some people assume from the sound of the word).

It also occurs in the heel, and can be from the patient being overweight, having poorly fitting shoes, or abnormal repeated stress to the area, (as in sports).

For example, this happens when the long ligament on the bottom of the foot, (the plantar fascia), becomes stressed and shortened. This produces a build-up of bone which then inflames the ligament, (maybe this is what you're referring to?).

Anyway, bone spurs are not directly a tendon problem, nor an indication of such, though that can sometimes be an indirect complication or secondary diagnosis.

I personally wouldn't make that assumption in Ray's case, as it sounds like it's from normal ageing and repetitive activity.

You dramatically undervalue a man who is, arguably, the best shooter of a basketball in our lifetime.  And also the one with the most daggers.

and the mona lisa is just a painting. having ray on this team, heck any team, improves it dramatically. to have someone with ray's shooting ability to come off the bench is almost obscene.

having ray and bradley playing together against another team's second unit is very attractive. ray draws defenses out, bradley can attack the basket. or bradley can attack the basket and kick the ball out to ray. either is good.

also, doc will make sure to exploit the other team using ray. he will run plays and set that makes the most of ray's shooting and his threat to shoot.

the celtics are better with ray on the team. if he can play 20+ minutes and shoot effectively the celtics are closer to the championship.

Ray Allen is the greatest shooter of all time.
Ray Allen is one of the clutchest shooters of all time.

To say we don't need Ray is sort of blasphemous.  Every team needs a Ray Allen.  I hope this isn't too big of an issue.

I hope he is healthy enough to play in the playoffs. If we need to reduce his minutes just to preserve him so be it.

We need both Pietrus and Ray on the bench to make a run for banner 18.

With Ray starting -  Off Rating 103.4 / Def Rating 98.2
With Bradley - Off Rating 109.2 / Def Rating 90.4

Not even close who impacts the game more and should be getting a bulk of the minutes.  At the same time it would be nice to have Super Ray in the 4th quarter with the game on the line and leading the charge with the 2nd unit.

not to nitpick here but did you ever watch Bird play?  If I need someone taking a final shot to win or tie a game, I'd take Bird over Ray 100 times out of 100.

Ray has talent and longevity and I appreciate his skills but let's not go overboard.
