Al Horford changes mind telling Yahoo! he will return to action in limited fashion 4/26 vs DAL after doc meeting. The Hawks forward-center told Y! Sports in the morning he didn't expect to return from the postseason due to pectoral injury suffered earlier this season. But doctor told him some pectoral weakness is normal and not to be fearful of it, which led Horford to changing his mind and becoming more confident for return. He will play about 15 minutes per game in 1st round.

Soooo hold the phone. We may have to deal with Horford, after all.

Weird, I wonder why he came out and blatantly said he wasn't playing if he was going to change his mind a few minutes later. I don't really see the point.

I can't imagine he is going to be much of a factor even if he does play, however.

I expect that Horford has been doing lots of cardio during his time out, but pectorals are important for bringing down contested rebounds, so a weak pec is good news for us. I also can't imagine his general rhythm is good.

Still, I would much rather play Atl without him.

He figured probably the soreness was bad and could hurt his recovery but was told its normal. I don't think he'll make much a difference anyway. It should help us if anything we got to get used to boxing out and battling big bodies.

I wonder how Horford's pecs would handle an errant KG elbow.

pectorals are important for bringing down contested rebounds,

Really? I would think lats would be the muscle here as it mimics the pulldown?   I would think you would feel some minute pec action but more so on a chest pass as it is similiar than a puships.  Chest and tricep chain is usually associated with pushing movements.   Biceps and lats for pulling movements.

I love it when you talk about pecs like that..... {Edit Post 100!}

Wow. Talk about a complete 180.

I guess that Dallas/Atlanta game on Thursday will be worth a look.  As i said before, i can't see him doing too much as there's a huge difference between "Cardio" and "game shape" (ask PP), but if he can give spot minutes and attack the glass the way he is capable of we could be dealing with a real wildcard here.

yea ...he would bound to be rusty and out of sorts at a minumum , trying to fit back in and probally mistake prone . The trade off at this point in his comeback good vs bad would be a wash for the early round .  Another couple months and it would be different story.

I know we've been playing Garnett mostly at C lately, but I think running with a front court of KG at PF and Steimsma at C for a good amount of minutes would be very difficult for Atlanta to match up against us with, both offensively and defensively.

KG can guard Smith much better than Bass can while Steimsma can play about the same type of C defense we'd need from whoever is guarding the Atlanta center (Collins or Zaza).  Steimsma could give us comparable, while slightly inferior, help defense.

The idea of Smith trying to guard KG with the way KG has been focused on pounding it down low lately is very appealing to me as well.  I'd much rather Smith be guarding KG than Collins (a better post defender).  Would ATL put Smith on Steimsma regardless?  I wonder.
I'd rather have Collins covering KG, he'd have a lot of trouble with his quickness.

Both. I think the key word there is "contested."

In traffic one needs to grab/hold the ball tightly. This squeezing motion would activate the chest.

Think about holding a ball in front of you (or above you) and tensing up like someone was going to knock it out of your hands.

A one-handed grab is also a lot like a chest fly type motion. You bring the ball from the side of your body into the middle, but in front.
