Hold off on the rebuild for two more years

The way KG and Pierce have been playing since the All-Star Break has made me believe that we may be better off trying to align contracts with Pierce's deal. It's not like they're will be any quality unrestricted free agents this year.

I would like to see us resign Garnett and Bass for sure. Then use the cap space to add a player on a two year deal. Something like Okafor and the T-Wolves pick to Boston to take on his contract. Or something else, but in looking at the landscape in the NBA I think we can contend for two more years. This assumes KG and Pierce can keep up the high level of play for a couple more seasons.

The only possible way I would ever be ok with that is if the Celtics make the NBA Finals.  Otherwise it is clear the ship has sailed and there is no point in extending this run out any longer.

I think Danny has to stay opportunistic, but a two-step, two yer transition probably makes the most sense: the Big Two next year and then the Big One in the year after that.

Certainly, if he can get him, he should want KG back, but I'm not so sure KG will want to sign up for two years at a time.

I am fine for a single year as a way to hold over for a better FA down the road.


More then that I think is pushing it.

If KG wants to come back for a one year smaller deal and there isn't a better use of current cap space I'd be fine with that. Tying up future cap space would be very bad however.

I think we should move on from Ray Allen but not signing KG just to be bad for a pick doesn't strike me as a useful idea.

A lot of it will depend on Pierce.


If he retires, then let KG and Ray ride off.

If the Celtics get a great offer, let KG and Ray ride off.


If he stays and there are no impactfull young FA (and lets be honest, their might be only one the plays the same position that Rondo does), bring them both back on one year deals.
