Colin Cowheard: "Lebron James is the best defensive player ever"

You guys know Colin Cowheard, that guy who looks like a soap opera actor on first take. Well he just said this. I really know for a fact that I (and probably a number of you on this blog) would be better at analyzing sports for a major network, than Colin Cowheard. I mean statements like this just show a general ignorance of the sport. And he gets paid for this. Needless to say Lebron James is not even the best defender in the game right now let alone with in the same stratosphere as KG, Bill, Hakeem, etc.

In related news, Colin Cowherd would really like everyone to pay attention to him for awhile. 

Sports analysts aren't paid to be really good at analyzing sports, they're paid to get viewers and listeners and website traffic.

Sports personalities can no longer make me too angry with stuff like that. I once joined a forum just so I could state in much more exact terms why I hated Jay Mariotti.

He may well be able to defend four positions, and I can't argue that he's an exceptionally talented and disruptive defender, but he falls asleep a little too much for my liking when things aren't going well.  At least, that's my take.

They're all basically there to throw out ridiculous opinions to draw a reaction.  Some of them may have had some legit insight at one point, but their ability to make sense takes a backseat to their ability to inflame.

Well he's out of the runnings for best player ever so they had to give him something. Lebron is a very good defender, but a lot of that is due to how aggressive he's allowed to be. Some of it is good defense a lot of it is just a whole lot of hacking. Lebron has never fouled out of an NBA game the way he plays defense that's should not be possible.

I would say that Lebron probably should be at least among the best defensive players ever.  But he doesn't care enough to actually do it consistently.

When Lebron is locked in defensively, he is unmatched, but that is way too infrequent.

I think that's the show that's on all the time at the gym - is that the one where the guy and woman kill time by posting a bunch of dumb poll questions and then you have to guess what % of viewers agreed with them, like that means anything whatsoever?  Seems like it'd be downright painful to watch for any amount of time.

Cowheard should leave the messiah worship to the professionals worshippers at  TNT, ABC, ESPN, or NBATV with the true NBA analyists.  

They've already annointed him the messiah.

Skip Bayless is the fella on First Take, so is it possible you're thinking of him? I only ask because saying something so outrageous and thoughtless is something that Skip is known for. Though Cowherd tends to be cut from the same cloth. Kornheiser as well. They're all a bunch of blowhards.

In his Chat Wrap yesterday, Michael Wilbon actually touched on the subject of sports analysts like Skip who just behind a mic and don't do their homework. He had some very good insights on it.
