Quote from: ESPN 5 On 5
1. Contender or pretender: Boston Celtics (have won 21 of past 29).

Jim Cavan, Knickerblogger: Contender. Many had the aging Celts dead and buried at the All-Star break, but a well-timed run -- buttressed by an increasingly viselike defense, Kevin Garnett's rejuvenation and two beatdowns of the Heat -- makes this incarnation of the Celtics dangerous heading into the postseason. With the added rest the playoffs provide, anything is possible for Doc's squad.

D.J. Foster, ClipperBlog: Contender. Call them old all you want, but Boston gets after it defensively like no other team in the league. With Avery Bradley and Rajon Rondo swarming ball handlers and Garnett doing his usual mad man routine, the Celtics can blow up the game plans of even the most potent offenses.

Tom Haberstroh, ESPN.com: Contender. The Celtics have been far and away the league's top defense since the All-Star break. Although their offense has been decidedly mediocre, it should improve as Ray Allen gets his legs underneath him. If they can maintain their otherworldly defensive attack, the Celtics can reach the Finals by strangulation.

Amin Vafa, Hardwood Paroxysm: Contender. Remember when everyone used to say, "Don't count the Spurs out"? That reputation now belongs to Boston. The Celtics love playing slow, grind-it-out ball. Paul Pierce, Allen and Garnett are getting some pre-playoff rest, and Rondo is as destructive a force as ever. Don't count out the Celtics.

Jared Wade, 8 Points, 9 Seconds:
Contender. Garnett looks a lot more mobile than he did earlier this season, and the Avery Bradley discovery has done wonders for a team than can now bring the best shooter to ever live off the bench. It's hard to believe the Celtics could beat both Miami and Chicago, but if they don't have to, as one NBA champion said, anything is possssssibbbbllllleeeee.

Jeeeeeez. We're contenders? And we're starting Brandon Bass and Avery Bradley?

DOGS AND CATS, LIVING TOGETHER, MASS HYSTERIA!!!

It worries me when everyone thinks we'll make it far. I personally like when no one thinks we can win.
Yeeeaaaa!!!

Title is misleading. "Couple of bloggers associated with ESPN think the Celtics are contenders" would be more accurate title. When all is said and done, the players will decide Celtics fate and not a blogger.

I like this team. Its very talented. Bass and Bradley are both studs and they are both young, combine those two with Rondo, and were really not that old.

KG is quicker then most centers which negates his age, and Paul is still a top 3 SF in the league even at 34. I would like to see Bass, Bradley and Rondo get more touches on the offensive end, we have 3 young studs, we need to ride their energy during games and let PP, and KG pick up the slack when they need too.

Title's not misleading, unless you think ESPN is a guy somewhere.

Haha.  In this day and age, i wouldn't be suprised to hear of that sometime soon.

Don't worry. The experts are only saying the Celtics have a legit shot.

They certainly aren't favoring the C's. We're still the underdogs that nobody wants to run into.

I have a friend who works in a welfare office in a major metro. He's got plenty of stories about people giving their kids crazy names — Murder and Cocania come to mind.

Why do bring this up?

There was a young boy named, you guessed it, ESPN.

Anybody know what Barkleys thoughts are on this Celtic team? He always has some off the wall usually ridiculous things to stay. I'm pretty sure he thinks we have zero chance at coming out the east or beating Chicago or Miami.

When asked about the Celtics' Championship Chances, Barkley responded, "Well, they old, Kenny (Kenny was nowhere in the vicinity)! They gotta win Fast! Slim Fast! Y'all know I been on the Slim Fast? God I'm so hungry. Like the Celtics. Like maybe they ought to KFC Double-Down on the play of Avery Bradley. It would be a Big Mac-stake to just put Bradley on the burger. Brandon Grilled Seabass has been playing well too. They should continue to hot-dog him. Pizza."
