NEWARK, N.J. — The body is a complex, well-connected entity - too connected sometimes.

The hyperextended left knee injury that Brandon Bass suffered at Toronto on Friday is a non-issue.

But that has led to him having discomfort in another part of the leg.

"My knee was good … I was so thankful," Bass said. "When I hyperextended my knee, I tweaked my hamstring a little bit, so my hamstring has been bothering me a little bit."

Bass' injuries make him like most players this time of year who are dealing with an assortment of ailments and injuries.

"Usually this time of year, nobody is healthy," he said. "I just want to be a little bit more healthy. The whole year I've had some knick-knack bothering me, so if I probably get a little more healthy I'll be good."

Indeed, C's coach Doc Rivers has gone about trying to find ways to get a number of his players some rest within the context of still playing games.

While Rivers will give some thought to resting some of his players between now and the playoffs, it is unclear if he'll consider having Bass miss any games.

"I think I'm too young to get those kind of days off," said Bass, who will be 27 at the end of this month. "I just want to be a little bit more healthy and I'll be cool."

I know Bass like he says isn't old but these things can linger it wouldn't hurt shutting him down a game. Get him a couple days rest before the Knicks game go small or roll with Steamer in the starting lineup.

There are three players that the C's absolutely can't afford to lose if they are going to go anywhere or do anything in the playoffs at all.

First and most obviously is KG, but for lack of depth the next two are Bass and Stiemer.

It's been tough. I'm sure Ed will tell Doc if a player needs to sit to help heal an injury.

When it looked like Bass blew out his knee during the Atlanta game, the first thing that crossed my mind was "there goes our playoff chances."

For this reason we need to rest players who are having any sort of nagging injuries.  Bass NEEDS to rest.

no one will love this post but the original big three would either literally sit out some early away playoff games or hardly show up.

Its tough to watch a beaten up experienced team try like heck to win an away playoff game that they don't have to win and come up short.

So yes of course we should rest these guys and/or, even sit them out in any situation in the playoffs where we can afford to lose an away game. Have to not lose home games and steal 1 away of 3 or 4.
