KG.

When he decided to play, the team's offense and defense greatly improved.

Paul Pierce has been our MVP since 09 when KG went down and held onto it when KG came back limped.  Obviously guys play better for stretches, and KG came extremely close to finally re-taking it last year, but Paul is still our best overall player.

If this was since the all star break I'd say KG all day long.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Tough call you could make a case for three guys; Rondo, Pierce, KG...

Rondo; any guy who averages double digit assists is immediately thrown into the MVP conversation in my eyes. He makes the team and each individual player better by a long shot... Plus, 6 triple doubles in one season when no one else has more than one? Thats crazy talk, he does it all...

Pierce; the captain and still the go to guy. Stepped up big when we needed him to get back on track and come together. He is still our go to guy at the end of games and can still score in many ways.

KG; The leader on the defensive end. Shuts down the opposing teams best big and has adjusted to playing a different position. Scoring and shooting the ball like crazy and is leading our team in 4th quarter scoring during our stretch. He is also doing it all for us.

I've never been one to give the MVP to the best talent or the player with the best stats... I genuinely look at it as most valuable. So I always say take the player off your team, with that player missing, who would make the biggest negative impact by being left of the roster. So which player; Rondo, Pierce, Garnett, would be missed most if he were gone...? Boy what a tough call. I might lean towards Garnett believe it or not...

  • It's all about the TEAM!
No votes for Dooling and Daniels?

Just kidding...

The heart and soul and Celtic's Pride seem to be the most owned this year by KG. Who else makes you get off your couch and pump your fist and scream a yeah more than this guy has the last 2-3 months? He has been on fire and he has been willing our team back into contention. He's taking us there on his back almost. Yes, the rest are contributing and making us legit but KG is bringing us to the next level. He looks VERY hungry this year!

And lets not forget all season long we were yelling we needed a center. Well in KG we have a Center! The man has done whatever is needed of him. He is all about the team. The dude bleeds green I am convinced.

I was down on Rondo early on this year but I am glad we didn't give this guy up. Vocally I was miffed at his errant passes and impossible floaters. There was a time he seemed somewhere else but now he has upped his game so much that we really don't stand much of a chance without his play. I think if he continues the way he has he could be a MVP contender in the future. His shooting and leadership of QBing the team has gotten so much better. Its hard not to vote for him but I still think KG is all about 18. He's made everyone else around him buy in. He's on fire!

What a great problem for us to have. Who to decide is our MVP. Its great when its debatable to give it to more than 1 guy.

The defense improved, the offense wasn't much better.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
Obviously the guy who won us the '08 championship...He's been leading this team emotionally ever since the Big 3 was formed...

It doesn't matter where he plays...He's still what keeps this team going...with PHONE CALLS and SLAPS ON THE BUTTS...THIS IS THE LEGEND OF...

Jermaine O'Neal, clearly.

Without his "performance" the KG-at-center lineup never happens.

Without question, KG.

It always amuses me to read the game recaps this year and see the word "vintage" come up as often as it has when they describe KG's play.  KG is who KG is.  He doesn't tap into his youth every now and then when he posts great stats.  News flash- he's still good.  You're allowed to use "vintage" when Vince Carter explodes for 30 points or when Gilbert Arenas sinks in a game winning shot.  But that's simply disrespect to KG when you throw that word around to describe his good nights.

Bill Simmons was so wrong about KG's knees.  "When a big man's knees goes, you're done."  He's back and he's still performing at a very high level.  When the game is close in the end, it's always KG who you can depend on to deliver.  The shot at Golden State, the clutch rebounds, the defense, the passion on the bench, the encouragements, the intense practices, the laying down on the floor yelling and waving his hands in the air after he takes a charge, he's the heart and soul of the Celtics.

Pierce's our lovable captain but KG is the unquestionable leader.  The only reason Rondo is able to lead the team on the court is because KG allows him to.

The numbers make this easy (at least to eliminate one):

6-2  (Our record in games Rondo did not play)
0-3  (Our record in games Pierce did not play)
0-3  (Our record in games Garnett did not play)

So when Rondo plays great but either Pierce or Garnett don't play or are out of shape, we are a bad team (0-6 with one or the other out, about 4-6 when Pierce came back but was out of shope).

When Rondo doesn't play at all but Pierce plays well and Garnett plays OK, we are a good but not great team (the 6-2 run).

When Pierce plays well and Garnett plays well, along with Rondo, we end up with the best record since the all star break.

The above boils down to Rondo playing well does not make us a good team if both KG and PP are not playing and at least one of them playing well.

Rondo not playing does not make us a bad team if both KG and PP are playing and at least one of them playing well.  And in fact we can be a pretty good team without Rondo.

My vote goes to KG as our MVP.  PP is a close second.  Rondo is important but more on par with Ray Allen than with KG or PP.  I feel that those who think Rondo is our MVP would be very suprised at how bad we get and how quickly if we lose PP or KG (0-6 so far).
