Let's compare the current Celtics vs. 2008 Celtics

2012 on left / 2008 on right based on an 8 man rotation.

Rondo greater than Rondo
Bradley less than Allen
Pierce equal to Pierce
Bass less than Garnett
Garnett greater than Perk
Allen greater than House
Pietrus greater than or equal to Posey
Steamboat equal to Brown

As stated based on an 8 man rotation,
T. Allen, Leon and Baby make 2008 deeper
but in the Playoffs your top 8 matter more.

Doesn't look that bad.

Paul's game did not regress to the degree that it stands out as a factor. The big drop-off is on KG, with his out-of-this-world play gone, he's just an elite forward (or center, if you try to make one out of him). Of course, the word 'just' sounds a bit odd when you're talking about eliteness, but that year was the last time we saw "Minnesota KG" mode.
Still, his rejuvenated play is the reason we're playing great basketball as of late.
Bradley less than Allen, but that 'less' word doesn't do enough to tell you the difference, either. Ray was far greater than he is now, although I'm quite confident that he will show his lethal touch in the play-offs.
On a final note, Steamer is not on par with PJ for me. PJ was a veteran with tons of experience under his belt, so, his role within the team was a whole lot different that Greg's. Greg's defensive presence is on a different level, though, so, the argument is fairly acceptable.

Im not sure that I buy the, "This guy is better than this guy," comparison, but I will say that what these two teams do have in common is heart and will to win.  I could see the 2012 celtics not giving up and clawing back from a 20+ pt deficit like the 2008 celtics did in the finals.

I think thats why I find the Celts much more attractive than the sox right now.  You watch the celts right now and you see every single guy giving it his all and leaving his best on the court
