Honestly I don't see any other coach more deserving. Has a whole new bench, new starting sg, new starting pf, moved KG to center , lost Green,Wilcox and O'Neal for the season and has his team on an 18-7 tear since the all-star break.

The people on this blog that criticize Doc reall make me scratch my head , he is clearly one of the best 2 coaches in the league along with Popovich

So will Doc win COY?

He should be in consideration.  Pop should be front runner

Doc should run away with it IMO.  Pop is great, but Doc had to deal with so much adversity this season, between the injuries, the trade rumors, and trying to make something out of very unproven guys, that I just think he needs to get the nod.

I would love it if Doc made it, he certainly is deserving, but they usually award iot to the guy who has done the most with the least, and from the outside looking in, that will probably be Thibodeau.

If we end up the third seed he might.

I think its a three way race between Thibs (again), Pops, and Rivers.

McHale might get it too if the Rockets shoot up the WC seeding late.

Pop matches Doc on making things out of nothing. He also lost one of his best three players to injury for nearly 30 games in a 66 game season. And he has his team 8 games ahead of Doc's in a fight for the best record in the West.

I love Doc and the job he did this year. Pop should win this award. It's a crime he only has one COY to date.
Go Celtics.

If we finish this season as the #3 team I'll go out on a limb and say yes.  The late-season run that is going to require will stick in people's minds.  That's his only real chance though against Pop

I know they've been on a bit of a swoon lately, but Doug Collins has done a solid job with the Sixers and probably should be in the discussion.

I think this season has been Doc's finest coaching job.  Certainly deserving as is Pops.  Thibs would be up there also.

I read the other day that Philadelphia had started the season 18-7 and have been 11-20 since.

I thought that Doug Collins looked a strong candidate earlier in the year but that is a big dip since then. A long period of sub-par results. Fallen to 7th in the East (barely above .500). I think this nosedive has taken him out of the running.

I couldnt be more proud of Coach Thibs.  He has gone to Chicago and shown how good our system really is WITH rebounding.  #1 team in conference and your best player has missed half the season, that's an incredible showing

Essentially an inverse of Boston's trajectory this year.

I think Lionel Hollins has done a really good job in Memphis also.

Navigating the loss of star player Zach Randolph for a large chunk of the season + the losses of several key bench players in Shane Battier, Darrell Arthur and Greivis Vasquez. To keep the Grizzlies in playoff position and now making a run up the standings for a top seed has been very impressive.

Yeah, Thibs has been great. Top of the East with D.Rose missing major time is hugely impressive. I think he'll be overlooked due to winning the award last season though.

Always so many richly deserving candidates for this award ... I think voters will look past Thibs and go elsewhere. A lot of honourable mentions but not the winner.

Pop will be a deserved winner. Doc is also a good candidate. Thibs will probably not make it for his recent win last season, but he has been fantastic, to be fair.
Depending on play-off positions heavily, but my favorite is Lionel Hollins at this point. He has turned a young volatile squad into a contender. Yes, I believe Grizzlies will be very very difficult to overcome for any time and won't be surprised if they make it all the way to the Finals.

Very true.

Didn't realize Philly's record has been that bad in this 30+ game stretch.
