Its too bad that Odom couldnt find a way to fit for the Mavs. Ive always liked Odom and really thought he was super talented and very underrated... Anyone in support of trying to bring him in this off season?

I am shocked that it has come to this. I always expected Lamar Odom to find his way at some point in the season and a big help for Dallas down the stretch and come playoff time.

I like that Dallas is not buying Odom out. Just sending him away from the team. I still think Dallas can trade him in the summer and get that $2.4 million, or whatever it is, off their cap and free up more money to pursue free agents in the summer.

Or he could be happy to be out of a situation he didn't want to be in, but know that expressing pleasure wouldn't be a good career move.

If they just released him, can't he just join any team he wants now? Maybe he can't be on their playoff roster for this year, but if he gets paid+ gets to choose his new team, it's win win for him. He never wanted to be a mav.

Only good thing about Odom are his super hot sister-in-laws.

I can't stand him. Always thought he was overrated. One of those guys that sort of does it all, but has no definable skill. Jeff Green-like.

I think Odom alternates each season being 'overrated' to 'underrated'. In the tail-end of years he's doing well, he's overrated as a heavy-rotation difference maker who is only marginalized in a supporting role because the rest of his cast (Bryant, Gasol, Bynum) are just so darn talented.

Then in years where he proves he's more inconsistent than you thought, he's written off as a jack of all trades but master of none ultimate non-significant piece.

IE, we expect too much of Odom when he's playing well, and value him too little when he's not.

Amazing that the year they dumped Odom who allowed them to weather all sorts of Bynum and Gasol injuries the Lakers finally get a full(well full lockout year) year of both players.

I don't think they are the problem though.  I forget the details, but I am pretty sure someone very close to him was killed last summer, and I want to say someone else was very sick.

He has been going through some major personal issues all year, and considered sitting out the season in the first place.

What is most interesting about this whole thing is that the trade the Lakers made makes a whole lot more sense now.  I think it had a lot less to do with Odom being a brat and complaining after they tried to trade him, and more to do with the fact that they knew he was not focussed on basketball, and they didn't want to pay him $16+ million (including luxury tax) to basically be a waste of roster space as he worked through his personal issues.

What I am especially curious about is how much the Mavs knew about his situation before they traded for him.  They certainly didn't give up much (a top 20 protected pick) for a guy who has been consistently productive, so I have a feeling they knew something...but if they had an idea of how bad it was, I have a feeling they would have used the TPE elsewhere.

I feel bad for Odom. A few years ago his infant son was found dead in his crib and last year a 15 year old kid was hit and killed by a car hired by Odom although Odom wasn't driving.  It's no wonder he is depressed.

seriously be a professional ! all year he was acting like a complete baby because of the original CP3 annexed trade. you are getting paid millions of dollars to play BASKETBALL, time to buck up or go back to the D-league you softy. i feel bad saying this but i'm glad he's falling apart. always disliked him PASSIONATELY. especially when he tackled ray in the first row when he was wide open. real class act, WAH WAH WAH i want my fat kardashian back, whah wah i want to be a laker but my i'm heart broken. hopefully he never puts on a green uniform

Left reeling by the July murder of his 24-year-old cousin and a fatal car accident days later that killed a teen pedestrian after the car he was riding in as a passenger collided with a motorcycle, Odom did almost no basketball training during the five-month lockout. The contrast in preparation to his final season with the Lakers was stark; Odom won NBA Sixth Man Award honors in 2010-11 after spending the bulk of the summer of 2010 with Team USA, often playing as a center for a squad that won the FIBA World Championships in Turkey.

Seems like he had more on his head than just getting dumped by the Lakers. Crazy wife and very public home life+tragedy+knowing your team was cool moving you, and had a 'done deal' for you...

Odom has never been the most rocksteady basketball player out there, sad that this stuff got to him. Understandable, but sad.
