another thing is, we need to spend $$ next year. and with no free agents worth spending it on. we can throw alot more $$ at ray for 1year deal..

Probably. After this season I think Ainge lets him go with designs on getting younger and more athletic at that position. If he's healthy perhaps Pietrus could come back for cheap. Or in the draft I'm a big fan of Terrence Ross. I think he'd be a perfect running mate for Rondo. But I definitely wish Ray well wherever he lands.

any other contendor can probably only offer him the mini-MLE....the celtics can offer him more than that...with a minimum cap threshold..we NEED to spend money why not spend it on ray?

So we should over spend on a guy just cause we have it?
I love Ray, but he belongs on a team where he can come off the bench and help a team with his clutch shooting. He has to come to terms with the idea that the starting 2 is a better option over him, and I don't think he can handle playing behind Avery Bradley, especially if he doesn't feel it's for a championship. And at this point, Avery needs and is earning his time, is a 1st round pick and should be either getting his minutes or should be moved. It's very reminiscent of Reggie Miller's last few years, except Reggie stayed with the same team his whole career. I could see Ray moving on to another team, more so on his own accord.

I think this season is Ray's last in Boston but not because of just these last 7 games though what happened during them I think did reinforce a few things:

-Doc and Danny want to get younger and more athletic defensively partly to give Rondo more options in transitions but also to aid the defense.
-Ray has said he's gonna be exploring all options this offseason and I'm certain he's gonna get some offers that will be intriguing as ANY team with title aspirations could use his skillset.
-He's gonna be a lower priority than retaining KG and adding to the big man depth.

Yeah I think Doc and Danny are gonna want more athleticism from the off guard spot starting AND coming off the bench. It's an athletic position. They want to upgrade and it's logical to want to do so with more than just ONE guy.

I think this is the last we see of Ray, too. Not because of one game or whatever, but because him coming back doesn't really make a lot of sense at this point. We're headed for rebuilding and Ray's sharpshooting is far more valuable to a contender - its a case of the franchise and a player going in opposite directions. I def could see Ray becoming a Clipper - he fits a serious need of theirs and I think (not 100% on this by any means) they'll have more than the mini-MLE to offer him. And even if they don't, I could see Ray leaving money on the table for a chance at another ring.

There is still a LONG way to go this year.

For this team to have any chance Ray has to start making some plays on a consistent basis. One three every couple of quarters wont cut it.

I think he can come back from this and still be an important piece for us.
