Pingalore's Magic sources confirm that Howard continues to convey to team owners that he wants a change in the coaching staff.

There was an ESPN.com report before the trade deadline that Howard told the Magic to fire Van Gundy. Both parties denied that rumor.

But as one league source told Pingalore, firing Van Gundy will not come as a surprise to people that work in the NBA and that it would come from the direction of Howard.

The league source did say this is pretty much a done deal based on Howard's demands, and the Magic are already putting pieces together to make a decision after the season.

However, one Magic player who did not want his named used said that there is still is a possibility that Van Gundy could return.

“(I) do not think Stan leaving is a done deal yet,” said the player.

What do you guys think? I'm actually starting to lose respect for DH12. But is he cancer to the locker room? IMO he should just shut up and play the game.

Don't know SVG personally so can't comment.  But, his basketball plan is plain stupid , pure and simple. After 8 years it just is not going to win them a chamionship.

If he won't change the chuck 3 point game plain, then chuck his tail right off the bench.

he owns the team... its that simple sadly, but they set themselves up so that one player makes or breaks the entire franchise.

If d12 wanted lebron's mom to coach, for example, expect gloria james to be the next head coach of the orlando magic.

it is pitiful and im glad we're not in that type of situation in boston where our players actually RESPECT each other, the coach, and the franchise as a whole.

the magic may as well sell the team to d12... he owns it now anyway... and for the record I dont think SVG is that bad of a coach. I wonder if being a babysitter was in his contract

For multiple reasons, the entire league is very happy to see this rumor.

Stan Van Gundy is a terrific coach, and his departure will lead to the breaking of the Orlando Magic giving Dwight Howard an easier excuse to leave.

The magics chuck 3 point game is never going to win them a championship. The offense needs to be based on howard and dishing.

Id like to see the magic target Nash...he would make them legit

the magic have had the best center in the league for how long now ? and SVG has yet to utilize him to his fullest potential. couldn't agree with DH anymore here. gotta be frustrating

In my head I keep replaying this fantasy conversation where Dwight Howard tells Otis Smith that he's demanding a trade, because ever since SVG left the team has been a directionless trainwreck. That he would've considered staying if SVG would've stayed on.

and I see otis smith pleading with him, saying 'but you told us to fire him!', and Dwight saying 'Yeah, it was a terrible move. Shouldn't have listened to me.'

I am under the impression that nobody in Dwight Howard's life is honest with him except for Stan Van Gundy. It's not a surprise to me that Dwight Howard struggles with the criticism that SVG delivers his way because I get the feeling that nobody else is willing to say a negative word towards him + when they do talk to him, they speak only to flatter him and boost his ego.

To tell Dwight great he is and great he can be. How he is the next Shaquille O'Neal (I believe everyone in Orlando's organization is constantly trying to make him the next-Shaq) and how he should be a 30ppg scorer and should have the ball down the stretch in close games. How the coaching staff aren't giving him enough touches.

SVG's voice as the lone truth-teller in Dwight Howard's life puts him in a very precarious situation ... and he is there precisely because nobody else in Orlando's hierarchy is doing their job(s) properly. Whether it's their inability to give truth-to-power (Dwight) or their incompetence (thinking Dwight is a Shaq-type player), I don't know .. but it's [dang] sure their fault that there are problems between Dwight and SVG.

... you missed the point of what i was saying completely. everyone knows their team sucks but their system is based around 3 pointers. they need better plays for dwight is what i am saying, SVG's style doesnt comply with that not the "supporting cast"

I'm not sure that's necessarily his philosophy, as it's not really a look he showed with the Heat. But him working with what he's got.

I don't think it's neccessarily a bad plan, either. But that cast has been exceptionally poor.

How much unutilized potential do you think Howard has?

A ton, but I don't fault SVG for that.

While I agree with you in that the support casting has been pretty terrible all-around, I also agree with celtic_-_pride in that they really don't use Howard well in that system. They almost never run their offense through him, or re-post him. Most of Dwight's offensive game is acting off of pick and rolls and offensive boards. This isn't bad, but if he is going to develop any finesse in the post they have to actually use him there. I don't feel that he does get enough touches in the post, though of course I don't think he should get ALL the touches.
