Yesterday was his venture into light?

"Rivers would not rule out a return for Pietrus, saying he would not be surprised if he returned next week and, at the same time, would not be surprised if he didn’t play again this season"

It only happens to us that we lose games by big numbers when our player gets injured. A testimony of how close the team is?

I feel like I heard Doc saying that before…

I saw the ESPN article about this yesterday, and immediately thought "ok, he's done for the season".

This severe of a concussion rarely happens in basketball, so it's difficult to find any comparison.  Just take a look at how long it took guys like Bergereon, Savard, or Crosby from the NHL to come back.

Every concussion is different, so I'm just speculating.  It doesn't look promising though.

It typically takes ~6 weeks to recover from this sort of concussion. Not sure, though, of the NBA's new concussion guidelines and how that might impact this time-table.

Can't compare the sports thought. While basically is physical, in hockey the goal is to actually hit the opposition team and hit them hard. Not the same in the NBA. The NHL needs to take extra precautions because of the more violent nature of the sport.

Now you are right every concussion is different so we have no clue what Pietrus' will be like.

Best bet is to assume he is out for the year, then it is gravy if he comes back.

Plus, hockey players probably have concussions repeatedly, which is makes each new one worse.

It doesn't take actual contact with other players to cause concussions.  Just falling down hard puts you at risk for head trauma.  Pietrus had the worst level of concussion without actually hitting his head on anything.

One group of players who I think are at risk for concussion problems in the NBA are those who will attempt to draw offensive charges because they often have to avoid doing things to protect themselves in order to establish position.  I've often worried that Glen Davis is the sort of player who would suffer possible brain damage through repeated brain trauma that doesn't rise to the level of a concussion.

Basketball may be a sport where contact is not supposed to happen, but it does often enough that the NBA is wise to take steps regarding concussions.
"The worst thing that ever happened in sports was sports radio, and the internet is sports radio on steroids with lower IQs.” -- Brian Burke, former Toronto Maple Leafs senior adviser, at the 2013 MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference

The cautions and concerns about concussions are crazy nowadays (and really rightfully so). Petey is probably going to be out until at least the playoffs because im guessing that the NBA concussion procedures are very very cautious at this point in the game.

Baby seems to absorb some really hard charges. He banged his head quite a few times with the C's.

Athletes really have to be careful when it comes to head trauma. I've been studying neuropsychology for a while now, and I've seen a lot of cases where people haven't been able to come back from even the smallest bump on the head. (Check out my website to find out more about what a neuropsychologist does.) The brain is so sensitive, and I think some people forget what multiple concussions can do to a person.

Man ...it would be great to see him back on the bench.  And Jeff Green too someday.
