That win was G-R-E-A-T yesterday... but the fact is, we still are not a championship contender. We jumped on Miami early in the 3rd, and they threw in the towel. Did Lebron give more than 50% effort?

The fact is Ray will be back, and will get his starting spot back, subsequently our defense and rebounding will suffer.

The Celtics are 20-21 (10-1 without)with ray Allen in the starting lineup, so I am guessing we go back to being around a .500 team when he returns.

I STILL don't think we get by Miami or Chicago in the playoffs, so if you tell me we could have gotten a nice prospect or a #1 pick for Ray Allen, and Josh Smith for KG... I still wish we blew it up.

That being said, this is fun to watch!

I like that you are sticking to your guns. For me I didn't want to blow up the team unless we weren't making the playoffs.

The thing is I think we weren't going to get all that much for ray and kg,  with his contract was pretty intradeable anyway. Its easy to say we should have traded jsmith for KG but that most likely was prob never on the table.

Im all for watching the celts in the playoffs, especially this group of guys, and I truly think you can never really count them out. If they are hitting on all cylinders and Rondo can be a top 10 player during big time games than who knows.

In any case I just love rooting for my team in the playoffs and you never know when they will be back here again

I'm thinking a fair number of teams may be wishing that we blew it up, wishing that maybe they inquired a little more seriously about trading for KG, Pierce, or Rondo!

Amazing that the team is playing as well as it is, with Bradley and Bass in the starting lineup and with a bench of Steimsma, Sasha, and Dooling.  At the beginning of the season, if you told me that was going to be the rotation and asked me what the team's record was going to be, I'd have guessed we'd be competing with Charlotte for ping-pong balls.

Keep in mind, we've seen more and more evidence that Miami can be beaten, mentally.  Derrick Rose is still hurting in Chicago; they're still playing well, but that makes them beatable, too.  A team like Orlando; Dwight can kill us, but we *can* beat them in a seven-game series, no doubt.

I don't know if we could hang with some of the better Western Conference teams, but I'm feeling better and better about our puncher's chance in the East.  I'm also starting to like the idea of Ray off the bench, since it sounds like he would be cool with that.  If Pietrus can get healthy....  we're still very small, but if we can rebuild some depth, we've got a much better chance of at least making the ECF than it appeared just a month ago.

And, just remember - for all of Rondo's inconsistencies, every playoff game is on national television!

I guess when you are "middling" it doesn't make a huge difference either way. I just look at teams as contenders or pretenders.

I guess my big thing is that I wanted to get another 1st rounder in this draft, and I have kind of wanted Ray out for a little while (although I love him)...

I think Ray is gone after this year, and this resurgence by KG has been great and I'd love to have him back for the next 2-3 years.

The 20-21 figure isn't quite fair. How many of those losses were when we were missing OTHER key players with injury or whatever? Remember those two five game losing skids early in the season? EVERYONE was playing like crap back then EXCEPT for Ray.

Considering how incomplete our roster has been all year, and us only recently hitting our stride both offensively and defensively, I think it is a bit unfair to lump all those losses under the same category. It's a bit disingenuous.

I could tell you that we could have gotten a nice prospect or a number one pick for Allen, but we couldnt... So we didnt move him just for the sake of moving him. If there was a deal on the table for us to make, sure we would have made it. But there wasn't, so we stood pat. And we are 15 - 5 since the All Star break because of it.

Since the trade deadline, we have not heard one rumor of a trade that would have netted the Celtics a good return for Ray Allen. 


I rather watch him play out the rest of the season with the Celtics.

Everything gets blown up in the offseason. Danny didn't take back bad contracts that would have stalled the rebuilding process. I don't get all the screaming to blow it up when the self-destruct sequence has been activated.

Exactly. The blow it up calls seem to overlook that this offseason is basically a blow-up with all the contracts coming off the books. And Ray was clearly being shopped and there wasn't appropriate value coming back. It is easy to say blow it up. It is harder to say how/what you actually would do. And even easier if you overlook the changes already coming this off season.

You have to admire the OP for sticking to his guns. I never felt that having a full scale firesale was a good idea, however, if we could have had Josh Smith for KG then we should have taken it. The Rondo for draft picks argument never made much sense to me.

Ainge was ready to blow it up.  No good deal came along so it didn't happen.  Unless I'm unaware of a great deal that Ainge passed up to save this nucleus, this blow up talk is nonsensical.

We would have not been a better team after any trade that was proposed, both in the short and long run.
