Doron Lamb cheap RA replacement?

Suppose that we want to let this Rondo / Bradley backcourt play out for at least another year. I tend to believe Ray Allen is the most likely to leave of the Big 3 -- he's been burning out at the end of seasons and become fairly 1-dimensional despite his best efforts. I see him joining a contender somewhere warm next year.

I think we would have to overpay for someone like Austin Rivers or Jeremy Lamb, and wouldn't be addressing our needs very well.

So all of that said, wouldn't Doron Lamb look good coming off the bench? He's one of the better shooters in the NCAA (career 48% 3PT on 300+ attempts) and probably would put up bigger numbers in a less loaded program than Kentucky.

He's no lottery pick, but if he was available late in the 1st round or early 2nd he could be a great value. I'd give him a hard lock starting around 25th, where any useful big men are likely already gone.

What does Marcus Fizer have to do with Doron Lamb? He didn't come particularly cheap as the #4 pick in the draft, and conveniently you already know he was a bust. Making a Jordan : Fizer analogy is way extreme compared to what I'm actually saying.

I'm just talking about using the 2nd (or 3rd) of our picks, ~20 spots later, to fill a bench spot with a possibly undervalued prospect. Obviously my intent is not that he'll be as good of a player as Ray Allen, although hopefully he would develop into a good NBA player.

Basically, I'm saying he might be a good value, I don't see a future for E'Tuan, and we may have a need assuming Dooling, Pietrus and Allen all leave in the offseason.

Lamb is 6'4", big wingspan and athletic.

He's not ideal size, but has a couple of inches on Bradley and is more athletic than Moore.

I think Doron played pg in high school, so he should have some versatility.

I'd say Tony Woton and Dion Waiters have more long-term potential, but if we were reloading for one more championship run, Lamb would be a solid pick at some point.

Terrence Ross would make more short and long-term sense, but he might be long gone.

But I don't think I'd take Doron Lamb with either of our two first rounders, unless the C's or Clips reach the Finals.

I'd even take a big like Mason Plumlee over Lamb in the mid-20's.

With Jeremy Lin out, chances of getting Milwaukee's 2nd rounder goes up. Two mid-2nd rounders and a $1 million at most in cash should get the C's back into the late first round for a 3rd first rounder.

I don't think anyone is saying they are comparable players in terms of ability or career path. Ray Allen is a sure-fire Hall of Famer, and most late 1st rounders never even sniff an All-Star team. I'd still rather bring in a talented 21 year-old such as Lamb, and let Bradley start than pay good money for a 37 year-old Allen.

Ideally it would work out with a 3rd pick around the 30-40 pick range, as another poster suggested.

But if we are going into the draft and we miss out on Terence Ross, we can steal one in the second round in Kim English. He's not known for athleticism and he's not really a good defender (the effort is there just a tad slow), but the dude can shoot.

Yeah, I agree with you. I think Brandon Rush combined with Rondo, and Bradley off the bench, could potentially be a very good, if not great, backcourt. Very complimentary in abilities, and it seems Rush has become drastically better this year with the Ws.

Another guy I hope the Celtics give a look is another Boilermaker, Robbie Hummel. As far as I've been able to read, he was "the man" on the teams with JJJ & Moore, prior to being bugged terribly by injuries. I think the Bucks pick that was acquired with Dooling could be very useful for some low risk, potentially high reward picks in the second round.
