Austin Rivers may have a famous father who we all know well, and he may get drafted much closer to where the Cs ultimately pick, but Anthony Davis is a once-in-a-decade franchise NBA big man.

Davis is a BEAST.  Averaged 14 & 10 plus 4 blocks as a freshman.  He has amazing length and athleticism.  Projects to be an elite defender with a soft outside shot and the beginnings of a solid post game.  His frame suggests he can handle at least 25-30 more pounds of muscle and the guy looks like a cross between Marcus Camby and Dirk Nowitski.

If DA is spending 1/2 as much time trying to figure out a way to steal Davis in the draft as posters on CG are spending trying to figure out ways to draft Austin, the Cs could be set up for a long time.

My question for the board...how can the Cs move up to the top three (maybe #1) to grab Davis as their next franchise player?

Davis will be the #1 pick.  I don't think we could land him, even for both our #1s and/or Rondo.

I don't think anyone around here doubts Davis' potential to be a franchise changer. Rather, he's a lock for #1 overall and we have no plausible way to land him.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

That's a heck of a rebuild. Imagine that 'turning the page'. Our 2 1sts this year, and 2014's 1st with nothing left on the roster (or payroll) but Pierce, Bradley, Johnson, and maybe Bass.

Jeeeeeeeeez. Dunno how I'd feel about that.

I'd say a lot depends on who wins the lottery.  Teams like Washington, Charlotte, and the Cavs will be extremely hesitant to trade the #1 overall pick...they all need a franchise player and I'm sorry but John Wall is not in the same league as Davis for obvious reasons (such as being almost a foot shorter).

But what if a team like Sacramento or Houston wins the lottery?  Those teams may want to move the pick to put a winner on the court now.

Sac has Cousins as their anchor in the paint and could use a real play maker like Rondo, while Houston might view a PP trade as very attractive.  Obviously other players (Bradley?) and multiple picks would need to be involved.

True.  But add Deron Williams, Jeff Green and KG with the cap room and it starts to look very interesting.

Wow, I'm gonna day-dream about this all weekend. Not advocating it, but entertaining it, cuz its fun.

This would be the only situation where I'd be cool with giving Jeff Green that 3 year 6-8 million per contract, assuming Bass comes back too.

I think the odds of Deron Williams coming here in what is obviously a full-on rebuild are pretty slim. But that is also...a great daydream.

Okay...been thinking about this.

The 'Pipe' dream:

Assumptions: We're keeping Pierce, Brandon Bass exercises his player option, we don't resign Garnett or Allen, and Rondo is gone.

Free agents to target:
Greg Oden (1 yr 4 million, with 4 million player option)
Danny Green (3 yrs, 4 million per)
Patty Mills (cheap)
Goran Dragic
Alonzo Gee

Lineup:
Dragic/Mills/Bradley/2nd rounder
D. Green/Bradley/Moore
Pierce/J Green
Bass/Davis/Johnson
Oden/Davis/2nd rounder

That team would be a lottery team, but it would be fun to watch and talk about for a year. Hopefully the C's retain their 2013 first rounder in the trade that has zero chance of happening anywhere except in my mind, and they get another cornerstone as Pierce retires, hopefully a PG or swingman.

Wow that'd be sumthin.

yes I watch basketball dont disrespect me like dat nd I'm dyin laughin at how many guys CB has overrated in this "deep" draft there's NO franchise changing players in this draft a few all-stars but mainly a role player draft IMO. Davis is overrated when I hear "most polished collegiant big man since Tim Duncan" and hear him gettin treated like a once in a generation talent nd see him play I'm dissapointed everytime

Let's review the facts.  Davis already has a soft touch and a mid range jump shot.  Most guys north of 6'10'' take YEARS to develop those skills in the pros.  He has a 7'4'' wingspan and is an elite shot blocker.  He has soft hands, can run the floor, and his frame with broad shoulders and length means he can easily carry another 30-40 pounds which will allow him to bang with NBA big men.  He is extremely athletic. How is it possible that he will NOT become an elite NBA big man?

Besides Howard and Bynam - how many other offensive minded centers are there in the league?  Maybe...MAYBE you could include Cousins but he is a major head case.

You can count these guys on one hand. That alone makes Davis a franchise NBA player.
