  • Rivers is not worth 2 players in this draft pure and simple.  when trading multiple draft picks, the team getting back the higher pick better make sure it's a player that's worth the ones they gave up.  In this draft, Rivers doesn't fit that criteria
  • Rivers may not even be worth drafting with the first pick the C's have depending on who else is still on the board
  • C's need size more than a short SG that doesn't play good defense.
  • Rivers IMHO is overhyped.  he needs another year of college to really develop his ballhandling and passing skills as well as show he can defend.  This kid is not the next Kobe or MJ but yet he's being hyped by some people here to be a can't miss all-star
  • If Rivers is the BPA at the time of any C's pick, then that would be the time to select him.

No way. We already have Rondo why waste two picks to get one mediocre guy. If he was a lottery player maybe, maybe id think about it. But i would much rather use our two first rounders to get a couple young athletic bodies on the bench, especially with our roster thin and depleted from free agency.

Im not agreeing we should do it but saying you'd do it for a loterry pick is a bit obscure unless you have a few players in mind.

Plenty of lottery players are busts and there's probably a pretty good chance rivers would be a lottery pick next year. I mean he'll prob be a 10-15 pick this year

Here's a question for you guys who follow college ball....who would you trade up for?

I would trade 2 first plus JJJ for the following
Anthony Davis
Thomas Robinson
Harrison Barnes
Kidd-Gilcrest
Sullinger

I would trade 2 first for one of these guys and a second

Andre Drummond
Austin Rivers
Jeremy Lamb
Brad Beal

Mavs
Wiz
Hornet

yes to all except Beal, Lamb & maybe even Sullinger! He just looks like Big Baby 2.0 to me. Dominant collegiate who will struggle athletically against taller much longer pro's.

No way.  He's not worth it.  Let's see how Predraft workouts go before we talk about trading any picks.  We need multiple athletes and at least one big...

Here's what Chad Ford said in his chat a couple of days ago...

Chad Ford  (1:06 PM)
He was getting advice to return and he clearly doesn't need the money. Rivers thinks he's a little better than he is right now which hurts him a bit. But he's still very talented. We have him going No. 17 to the Wolves in our latest mock. But his range is probably 9-20.

You don't trade 2 #1's for that type of player in this draft...

If he's there when we pick, I'd take a long look at him.

I wouldn't trade up to get him.  If I am willing and able to trade up there are better targets then Austin Rivers IMO.

Exactly.  If we're going to trade both picks, we better be getting a Bradley Beal, Thomas Robinson, Jeremy Lamb, etc.  All those guys are a level above Austin Rivers.
do it

Only way you trade both picks is if you get into the top ~7.

This is a deep draft, you can get two productive players late in the first round.

currently (as of 3/27) portland has the 4th,11th, and 41st picks in the draft. The celtics have the 17th, 24th, 40th, and 47th.

If I where danny, I would trade the 17th and 24th for the 11th and 41st. Then take Austin at 11th. If Milwaukee keeps playing well the celtics would then have 3 picks in a strong 2nd round. Going by draft express's mock those picks could potentially be Jae Crowder,Will Barton, and Jeff Withey

Danny could then even package 2 or 3 of the 2nds to move up the the beginning of the 2nd round 31-35 if a 1st round player he likes (Dramond Green/Jae Crowder/Fab Melo) falls out of the first round.

There are a number of good centers drafted that became good in their rookie year, most recently Vlade, Shaq, Dwight. Such a huge number. Stop asking for a center on the draft, we won't take any because it takes years to develop into a NBA calibre center.

I'm all for drafting Rivers, and there are two cases here. 1 - he'll be in first 10, 2 - he'll fall between 17 and 20; depends how over or underestimated he gets. I'm all for it, but Doc has been looking forward to this draft more than to the new Championship, and Terrence or Perry or whoever we may draft aren't players that ought be traded.

However... Rondo, Dooling, Bradley, Moore, Allen is the weakest backcourt we can imagine. Rivers would fit in great, but we didn't draft Moore for no reason, just like we didn't draft Bradley just for fun.

But, say we get Rivers, the team would be: Rondo, Dooling, Bradley, Moore, Allen, Rivers; Pierce, Pietrus, Green, Daniels; Bass, JJJ, Miles/Wilcox (potentially), KG, Hollins (we'll probably keep him). That's three ball handlers, three shooters on guard line, great shooters, great runners and great defenders on SF, and no need to comment the improved PF and C positions.

Do we really need more PF's and SF's over a shooting guard...

I would trade one first rounder to move up a bit, but certainly not both. Austin is good but I am still debating if I would want to see him play here

The way I see it, we're probably hitting to full rebuilding mode after this season, so drafting a big or not doesn't matter. I'm more concern to drafting a player that we can possibly build around.

Right now in the mock draft has us drafting Royce White at 18 and Waiters at 22.

Royce White has all the physical attributes to be an all star. He is a point forward and can see the court really well for his position like Lebron. And I have also heard people comparing Waiters playing like Wade.

I might trade the 22nd, to move up a bit and draft a big but I do want Royce White. Austin Rivers is not at a level where I would sacrifice two first rounders for...maybe Anthony Davis but not Austin Rivers
