Hey everyone, I had a question and thought I would see if anybody has any advice.

A couple weeks ago I got really sick for probably the first time in 10 years.  I was puking and all that fun stuff for two days and at the end of the ordeal I lost 6 pounds, so as you can imagine it was pretty brutal.

Since then I have been having alot of anxiety.  Since the virus came on suddenly I am nervouse I will get sick again all of a sudden, and in almost every situation I go into I think to myself, "what happens if I get sick right now."  This sends my mind into a downward spiral and I usually end up feeling sick again just because of my mind.

My rock bottom was probably a week ago when I went into bed bath and beyond with my GF and after 10 minutes in the store I started feeling like i was going to hurl.  I know its rediculous for somebody to get freaked out in bed bath and beyond but for some reason it happened.

I started seeing somebody for help and they gave me some excercizes to do for my anxiety, but I was just wondering if anybody else her has struggled with anxiety and if they had any strategies that helped them overcome it.

Thanks.

I haven't personally, but I have a friend who had the exact same thing happen in highschool. He was sick with all kinds of awful for a few weeks, and everytime he would stand up or do anything, he'd be sick. He kept trying to get back to school but kept throwing up before 3rd period. It happened so much that even after the virus passed he would have what amounted to a panic attack and end up either barfing or getting dizzy.

He solved it by carrying around a water bottle and doing breathing exercises. Everytime he started to get sick, he'd drink from his water bottle and do his breathing exercise.

Dunno if that helps but that's basically how I remember it now.

I've heard visualization can help. Like if you try to take a little control and try to exercise and eat right, and then take a few minutes, a few times a day to envision yourself as a healthy person and your anti-bodies fighting things off and the two of you working together it can help.

Ya, I mean at this point I know im not actually sick and its really just my mind playing tricks on me.  The doctor said I effectively have a phobia and my mind and body are reacting to the phobia right now by feeling sick when I think about it.  She said I need to retrain how my body reacts to that phobia so we shall see how it goes.

That definitely does help, I have been drinking alot of powerade recently haha.  But it really is pretty crazy how powerful the mind can be over the rest of the stuff going on in your body.  It does give some creedence to the mind over matter healers too!

You should talk to your doctor about anxiety medication or anti depressants.

Sometimes being sick out of no where is your body's physical response to a psychological problem.
If you have been sick for extended periods it will play on your mental health and create chemical imbalances that can be returned to normal after a few months of medication.

Very serious topic and you should seriously consider seeing a doctor and tell them what's happening. Be 100% honest about what might be making you sick and giving you anxiety. Depression comes in many forms.
Good luck buddy.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

It may sound pretty simple, but something that helps a lot, often better than medication,  is aerobic exercise. Regular rigorous exercise will reduce anxiety. I also agree that using medication is the last resort, and imo should not be needed in your case. Just remind yourself that you went 10 years without getting sick, what are the chances of getting sick again so soon? Almost impossible. Once you feel a little more confident, confronting and overcoming the situations that trigger your anxiety is the next step. After that, it's smooth sailing.
