Can the Knicks make the playoffs without Amare?
Yeah, yeah ... Amare has had minimal impact all season. He is not much of a loss.

I dont think the Knicks can make the playoffs periods. Amare or not. Still a huge blow for the Knicks regardless.

Losing the diminished Amar'e could help them if they are able to create a more consistent offensive flow and spacing.

Amar'e + Tyson just doesn't work it seems, though it could hurt their defense if they end up playing Novak/Jeffries/Melo at the PF spot.

Yeah, Amare has been a terrible player for a while now. Now they are going to have to start Jeffries, right? He is actually having a much more efficient season than Amare was.

I doubt this changes much for them, though, in the long run. That team lives and dies by the Melo J.

Last night they started:

Lin, Shumpert, Fields, Melo, and Chandler

So Fields/Jefferies/Novak/Melo will all take turns guarding PFs.

I kinda really like the idea of Melo playing the 4 next to Tyson Chandler. Unfortunately they don't have the wings make it work.

it'd be nice if this works out for us to get Milwaukee's second rounder.  Milwaukee still sucks but they're close enough to NY to possibly catch them.

for the conspiracy theorists out there, anyone taking odds on NY winning the lottery if they miss the playoffs?   ;)

Or not guarding them, as the case may be...

Sad for Stoudemire who seems like a decent guy.

Yeah, Amare has been a terrible player for a while now.

Credit Steve Nash for that. he makes other players so much better (currently Gortat).

Word could come as early as Tuesday on whether Amar'e Stoudemire needs season-ending back surgery, a source told @CBSSports.

Amar'e last year playing C full time under D'Antoni scored at a high rate with still good efficiency, but no longer stellar like with Nash.

Dropped from .617 TS% to .567 TS%. Nash helps him out of course, but he was still a dynamic offensive threat at the C position.

I think injuries and playing PF full time are the reason for his rapid decline this year not the lack of Nash spoon feeding him buckets.
