Quote
Perry Jones III is averaging 4.5 points on 28.6 percent shooting in two NCAA tourney games.

“Sometimes my shot is not falling and I shy away from shooting the ball,” Jones said. “If my shot’s not falling, I’d rather go 1 for 7 then 1 for 20-something.”

This kid doesn't have IT will never be a star in the NBA. I feel with his skill set he is an all or nothing prospect either he is going to be an all-star or out of the league in a few years. With this quote I for see him falling to where the Celtics could draft him and I hope they stay away.

He is another Anthony Randolph, he will dominate the summer league/D-league but never show it when games count.

If you think chris wilcox looked good running the floor with Rondo then you'd love pj3 doing the same. He's a very good rebounder and shot blocker. He reminds me of josh smith except Josh Smith would never have made that statement; since  he has no problem going 1-20
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I don't agree with the Anthony Randolph comparison (I think Randolph is lazy, while I think Jones is just lacking any spine), but I agree that whoever takes him in the mid to high lottery will regret it.

I think once you get into the late lottery and mid first round, then suddenly its worth the risk for that kind of talent...but someone will likely take him way too early and regret it.

Or people will pass on him and regret it. In a recent chad ford article he quoted a gm as saying pj3 will get someone fired. Either a gm will get fired for passing on him and watching him become an all star, or they will get fired fire picking him high or watching him become a bust.

I think if he's drafted by a team where he can run the floor and catch alley oops from an elite pg he'll be a very good nba player.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Get him in the gym with Kevin Garnett and this kid will be a star.

If we are lucky enough to get a pick 15-20 or if he falls to 20-25, then we HAVE to take him.
He just has too much potential.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

High risk, high reward.  Team interviews will be huge for him...

Who would you guys take between Perry Jones and Royce White?
I'm leaning White at the moment.

Said the same thing (in the same article) about Drummond too, IIRC.

Depending on interviews and things it would probably be White...

I prefer the guy who can step on the team plane.

I think that white should be there when we pick Jones probably won't.

I think both are developmental prospects. Jones needs to improve his post moves and gain muscle. White needs to lose 20-30 lbs and improve his jump shot.

I'd take this kid in the high teens to low twenties in a heartbeat, and I'd be thrilled about it.  After the first five picks or so, you're not going to get a surefire star with no bust potential.  It doesn't work that way.

We're at a time where we need to take some chances.  Sure-thing roleplayers don't help us.  Swing for the fences.  Go for a Perry Jones III, or a Tony Wroten - guys who have warts now but possess the overall tools to be elite players.  I'd toss Austin Rivers in that category too.  At best, we accelerate the rebuilding process by acquiring great talent relatively late in the draft.  At worst, they bust and we wait another year.  I guess you run the risk of losing a ticked-off Rondo to a trade demand, but in all honesty if he takes that route then he's probably a bad piece for a rebuilding team anyway.

Also, I don't think this guy's interview is so incriminating.  I don't want players to just keep chucking if they're off.  Ideally, he'd attack the basket (which is well within his ability) and draw fouls.  I can live with 4-14 if he goes 8-10 from the line in the same game.

I just think this mentality can be coached out of him.

EDIT:  Quincy Miller is another guy I'd take in a heartbeat.

In a deep draft I would pass on this kid, he has so much talent and it doesnt translate to the games. If your an athlete who loves basketball how do you not step up in the Div 1 NCAA tournament. Watching Dremond Green shoot (and miss alot) against Louisville you could tell he really wanted that game and was really pushing to do what ever he could. Perry doesnt have that fire..
