http://www.nba.com/celtics/news/press_release/press032312-roster-moves-hollins-wilcox.html

The Boston Celtics announced today that they have signed center/forward Ryan Hollins. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. To make room on the roster for Hollins, the Celtics requested waivers on forward/center Chris Wilcox.

Hollins, a 7'0" center/forward, appeared in 24 games for the Cavaliers this season averaging 3.7 points and 2.3 rebounds in 15.1 minutes per game. Hollins recorded season-highs in points (15), rebounds (7) and minutes (31) against the Washington Wizards on March 3. In his seven starts for the Cavaliers this season he recorded an average of 5.6 points and 3.7 rebounds. He also shot 60.0% from the floor in those seven contests. The former UCLA Bruin recorded his best statistical season during the 2009-10 season when he was with Minnesota averaging a career-high 6.1 points and 2.8 rebounds. Last season with Cleveland he shot a career-high 59.8% from the floor.

Man, I just wanna thank Chris for all he did for us this year.  It's such a shame that it should happen to him, and I wish him the best of luck.

Why couldn't they get rid of JO instead?

Why couldn't they get rid of JO instead?

Just a guess, but it could be because they are afraid he will have a miraculous recovery and join the Heat.  So, they are waiting until after today to waive him for their second signing.

I also think he is easier to use as a sign and trade cap filler in the offseason.

I'm wondering if we'll get another big. Who are the guys left? Sean williams? A d leaguer? I've heard that Diaw is probably going to Sa. they already have tlo cut someone to bring in patty mills. Would they cut Ike Diogu to bring in Diaw? If so I'd bring him in provided he was cut today.
DKC:  Rockets

This is pure speculation, but there also might be insurance money involved.  I know players need to miss a certain number of games with an injury for insurance to pay their salary, and where JO had missed games previously with the wrist injury, they might be more likely to get some of his salary covered (I would assume if they buy a guy out, insurance is out the window).

Its also possible that they specially insured his wrist, since they knew it was an issue that would possibly cost him a large number of games.

Well this signing should put the Celtics over the top. ::).
I guess he's a decent back up plan but I'm just as soon see Steammer get the playing time.

Steamer will get plenty of playing time.  The problem is, they no longer have any cushion for any more injuries, or foul trouble (or simply tired legs).  That is what Hollins is.

I wasn't really expecting the Celtics to be able sign a guy who should take playing time away from Stiemsma.

Will Hollins be available for tonight's game?
“Being a Celtic is, every decision you make is about the team. Every cut you make is about the team. Every pass you make is about the team. You take yourself out of it. It’s not for everyone. If you don’t want to win, don’t want to play team basketball, and it’s more about you then you’re probably not a Celtic." Doc 2010

He'll be dressed as long as he passes his physical. Doc said he might not play, though. We'll see if he can crack some court time.
