I wouldn't mind the Ryan Hollins signing but I feel we already have a Ryan Hollins named JaJuan Johnson. Hollins is a pretty weak rebounder and as is JaJuan, but JaJuan is a better scorer.

7 foot 240 isn't the smae size wise as 6'10 225 (maybe). I agree they may rebound similarly but we needed size and Hollins has that.  Plus he's played down low in the league.  At this time beggars can't be choosers and we needed another big body....

I know this is a big "if," but if Hollins can play for Boston even close to how he played in that YouTube video, that would be nice. He seems athletic in the open court, and can go up and get alley-oops ... might make a good running mate for Rondo. And perhaps being on a winning team (something I think he's never experienced?) will keep him motivated.

Dude is 28 this year.  He's just a big body.  If he hasn't become a serious player by now, it's not gonna happen.  If he can get up and down the court and dunk, Rondo might make HIM look better than he is but that's about it.

could the team still sign fesenko  and diaw?

According to Balkely, Fesenko not an option...

To be accurate:

Nope. I don't think he's on their list of possible additions.

wow that's unfortunate

Not if it means they're making a strong push for Diaw.

More from A. Sherrod Blakely:

Quote
Boston's interest in Hollins goes back before he was waived by Cleveland on Tuesday.

Hollins, who played at UCLA, spent the lockout working out and playing in games with Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce.

Ainge said Garnett and Pierce urged him this summer to try and sign Hollins.

"They really liked his game and the way he could play with them," Ainge said. "I think he would fit in well with what we do."

It is unclear how much Hollins will help immediately.

For the C's, having another big on the roster is help in itself.

This has to bode well and makes me feel a bit better, if they are actually cool with the guy I mean ya know he's going to at least try

I think Powell is the consolation prize in the likely event that Diaw chooses San Antonio.  He's got the jumper Doc wants from his power forwards, and he's got enough bulk and experience to play decent defense on his counterpart (the main reason JJ isn't seeing the floor).

If Powell's not available, I have no idea who they'll target.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

Bottom line is, if we sign these guys they will play BETTER because they have KG along side of them.

Remember how godlike Perkins looked when he was playing here with KG?

Now he looks like an overpaid scrub.

This thing about KG is said a whole lot without any real evidence to support it. There a lot more bigs that haven't progressed on this team than the other way around.

Celtics will have Ryan Hollins in Philadelphia tomorrow, Kyrylo Fesenko, the other Celtics target, appears headed to the Pacers.

If so, then we're left with the following:

Powell
Gadzuric
Sheed

Players like Hollins and Fesenko are warm bodies, but their inability to score away from the basket makes me think that they aren't the sort of player I would be looking at as possible Celtics beyond this season.  That actually bothers me more than lack of rebounding.

The thing we have to remember is pretty much all of these guys are stiffs. And, the guys that are at the top of the stiff list want to go to teams that have a better shot at the championship than the Celtics. I have no expectations for Hollins given his horrible stats since coming into the league. Anything he gives the team will be a bonus, as I see him as nothing more than a warm body. I think this signing pretty much sums up where the Celtics stand right now, as well as their chances at making a run for the championship, which are slim at best.

I don't know if anyone mentioned it, but I would LOVE for Fesenko to join the Celtics. He's not only a big body, he's a huge body. A decent rebounder, and finally someone big enough to defend the paint effectively
Even though he was old and on his way out, Shaq did a pretty good job at defending the paint when he was on the Celtics. Shaq wasn't quick enough to chase a snail, but he was big
