This is scary.

From a Cavs poster:

"good...Hollins made his own bed. He had endless opportunities to show he gives a ****, and failed every time. i've never seen a big man who avoided rebounds so consistently. most of the time he wouldn't even bother to box out or go after the ball. what a waste of height. it baffles me when players get the opportunity to play in the NBA and they fail to even put forth effort. so many people would kill for that opportunity and a lot of these guys just p--- it away. some of these guys must think they can just coast along and survive on their height alone. you could tell that Hollins is one of those guys who never really cared about basketball and the only reason he started playing basketball was because he was blessed with height."
Yikes

Yeah, wow.  The handful of games I've seen Hollins in he seemed to be pretty high-effort.  Maybe one of those guys that turtles up and coasts when he's not in a glamor situation.

Based on this I vote to sign him, as long as we have an agreement to film and post his first practice against KG.

Just what we need, another big guy who refuses to box out and get rebounds.

It gets worse scouting report per Hollinger:

Quote
One of the world's greatest mysteries is how Hollins can suck so badly at rebounding. He is 7 feet tall, 240 pounds and can jump out of the gym. It seems inconceivable that he would be a below-average rebounder, much less this shockingly below average. Yet last year he was outrebounded by every frontcourt player in the league except for Andrea Bargnani and Brian Cardinal. Wait, it gets better. Among those with better rebound rates than Hollins include Mike Dunleavy, Shane Battier, Evan Turner, Tracy McGrady, Chase Budinger, Thabo Sefolosha and Linas Kleiza. That's a sampling, mind you -- 39 perimeter players were more effective on the glass than Hollins. A lack of strength is partly to blame, which explains Hollins' other standout stat: He committed a foul every 5.94 minutes, one of the league's highest rates, and struggled to battle big centers both in the post and on the glass. But he has value in other respects at the defensive end. He's mobile and can defend the pick-and-roll, and graded out well on Syngery. Offensively, he has no skills except a knack for making short runners, but because he can run and jump he gets his share of free points. Hollins can finish, shooting 72.7 percent in the basket area and ranking seventh among centers in TS%. If he could grab a rebound once in a while, those other skills would make him a useful backup center.

i think that on a right system players can evolve to a better player, see brandon bass or even stiemer this season. ;D

No time to evolve in this short season.  Only 15 games left and virtually no practice time.  If this is a move for now, then how can anyone but Sheed be the right choice -- unless of course Sheed has lost his skills (very possible).  Sheed is the only one who knows the team, systems, etc.

I always liked Hollins.  He is the type of player who knows his role as an energy guy, and can be useful on a team that can hide his weaknesses.  I am not sure he would be my first pick for the C's though.  I think they need a little more beef, rather than another stringbean who can't rebound.

I'd be happy with a Hollins pick up. The C's can easily use an athletic 7 footer who doesn't look clueless on the court.

Of course there would have to be 1 more big picked up.

Beggers can't be choosers. At the very least the man is better than both JO and Chris Wilcox combined right now. I'd sign him.

And to be honest, it would be hard for me to show effort if I played for the Cavs too. Playing next to 3 Hall of Famers and an all star PG will light a fire under anyone.

I like Hollins as a third string center. Very good athlete and a decent defender albeit a very limited offensive player and horrid rebounder.

However, I don't think Hollins adds anything necessary to this current Celtics team. Stiemsma already has that third string center role locked down ... and if Boston's only option to provide additional big man depth is another third string quality center, I'd rather bring in someone who offers more contrast skill-set wise to Stiemsma.

Someone with bulk. Physical toughness. Low post defense. A 6-11 270lbs type a guy (why in the world did Danny not sign Eric Dampier earlier in the year when he was available? It was nuts to pass on him). Not someone like Ryan Hollins.

Man, this is depressing, why cant their be a 7 footer out there somewhere who prides himself on boxing people out, playing solid defense, and rebounding, its like they dont exist.

Allt he 6-11 and 7 foot guys nowadays dont play defense and dont rebound...I dont get it.

If we had a Center that would score 0 points a night but get 10+ rebounds and play solid defense, we would be a contender.

Comeon world.

Hollins is athletic and runs the floor.  I think we should go for him.  He might be of more use than Daniels who Doc won't play.

Ryan Hollins is approximately the level of talent I thought the Celtics could have gotten with Keyon Dooling and a second round pick.
