With the 17th pick the Celtics select

Quote
PICK   TEAM   PLAYER   VITALS

Boston

Terrence Jones

Position: PF
Height: 6-foot-8
Weight: 244 pounds
Age: 20
School: Kentucky
Analysis: Jones is one of those players with top-five talent who doesn't play like it on a consistent basis. That is a gamble the Celtics should be willing to take at this spot in the draft. They did the same thing a few years ago with Rajon Rondo and it paid off big. The similarity between the two? Both players believed in their games, even when their coaches didn't. Jones could be the second coming of Antoine Walker.

With the 24th pick via the Clippers the Celtics select

Quote
PICK   TEAM   PLAYER   VITALS

Boston

Arnett Moultrie

Position: PF
Height: 6-foot-11
Weight: 225 pounds
Age: 21
School: Mississippi State
Analysis: Moultrie has all the physical tools to be a dominant NBA player. He's long and super-athletic, and he can even get things done on the perimeter. He's just taken a little longer to develop. He would be a good get here for the Celtics.

I'd rather have Rivers than Jones, even though I think Jones will be one of the steals of the draft.

I would be happy with this draft.
It would be interesting to see if Perry Jones the 3rd is going to fall all the way down to us. Terrence Jones is a good pick if he doesnt..

while these sound like a couple of nice pick-ups if we get them, I'm concerned about the wisdom (or lack thereof) of making our last 3 1st round picks PFs.

so next year: KG (possibly), Bass (possibly), Green (in some capacity possibly), JJJ, Jones and Moultrie?  Who are we --> Timberwolves East with all these PFs?  I could see adding one for depth after KG/Bass leave but 2-->a bit of overkill I think.

I would expect Danny to take the BPA at the time he picks but if it's a PF at both picks, I'd hope he'd move one for an asset and another pick to get some variety in the player positions.

If Jones fell to us at 17 I would throw a parade. He will be a much better pro than college player.

I think Jones could play some 3 in the NBA. I think if Zeller or Leonard are there for our first pick that's the way we go. If not I would expect us to pick a 4 (we need size). However, if Austin Rivers is on the board when we make our first pick I would be surprised if we went in another direction.

If Austin Rivers is selected by the Boston Celtics, consider that a precursor to Doc Rivers' resignation.

I just don't think any father with an ounce of sense would want to expose himself or his son to that clusterflock.

I dont love either of these pick.

Jones is a PF stuck wanting to play SF. He is cut in the Marvin Williams/ Antoine Walker mold. I worry that he will be a statistically productive player who's game wont translate to winning basketball do to defensive mismatches and a reliance on jump shots.

Arnett Moultrie would be a good value pick at #21 but having recently watched him play against umass I have concerns about his ability/willingness to bang inside. Against umass he shot the light out but his point where primarily from the perimeter and he didn't seem to interested in rebounding.

It is obviously early, but looking at the talent and potential available, it would not be shocking if we end up with someone better than either Green or Perkins with that Clippers pick.

I agree with Tyler Zeller at 18. His compination of hands, size and ability to run the floor would be great with rondo. I could see him being down graded version of Lamarcus Aldridge, capable of averaging 15 pts 8rbs a game as a starting C. He will struggle against D Howard and A Bynum do to his lack of strength but that can be said about 90% of the bigs in the NBA.

I like these picks, especially Jones.  I think Jones is a sleeper in this draft, and scouts have picked him apart a little too much.  He is going to need some coaching up to convince him he needs to be on the box, but otherwise, he is a heck of a value that late in the draft.

Moultrie I have been less impressed with, but I haven't seen a ton of him.  And at 24, he is certainly worth a shot.

I'm not normally a conspiracy theorist, but I think part of Doc coming back was the possibility of finally being able to spend time with his son after he is drafted by the C's. By possibility I mean Ainge saying if we have the chance we will draft your son, using that as a selling point.

I would LOVE to have Jones on this team. Little bit of bias as a lifelong UK fan, but Jones is a good player. He's another undersized PF, which DA loves, but he plays bigger than his size. Last year, he was a double-double machine. This year, with Davis on the court, his numbers have gone down. But, he's a good defensive player, has range (though don't expect him to shoot a lot of 3's), and loves a monster dunk.

I've seen Moultrie play the few times he played Kentucky. I has always scared he would go off, even playing against Davis. He's another great shot blocker and defensive stalwart.

I'd be happy with either or both of these guys.
