What Up!
I just found something funny from the game against ATL haha.
Quote
#CelticsTalk: #Celtics Kevin Garnett, when asked if the dunk by #Hawks guard Jeff Teague fired up the team. "I don't know who you talking about. That guy's a nobody." - Sherrod Blakely
Something insteresting from Jared Weiss (Locker room reporter) too;
Quote
"2nd time I've heard Teague get trashed in the Celtics locker room, is there a backstory?"
If yall want to see Garnett say it on video.. Here you go haha;

I was listening to the Atlanta broadcast of the game and the Hawks' play-by-play guy had one of the greatest calls I've ever heard for the last shot of the game.

"For the love of God, Jeff Teague shot an air ball."

KG is definitely outside the norm when it comes to chameraderie in the league. I would put Kobe in the same category. With me or against me...no in between.

It's a real difference between the mid 90's draftees and the younger generation of stars (Lebron, Wade, Dwight, etc.)

I actually prefer the respect that younger players have for their peers. I think KG calling out a starting point guard on a team that's ahead of his in a playoff race lacks class.

Reminds me of this story:
Quote
Garnett wasn't exactly welcoming to Pacers rookies A.J. Price and Tyler Hansbrough when he visited Indianapolis this summer to film a Wheaties commercial. As Garnett exited Conseco Fieldhouse, Indiana assistant coach Lester Conner asked him to walk over and meet Price and Hansbrough, who were working out. Garnett wasn't exactly friendly. According to Conner, Garnett continued to walk out and remarked, "[Expletive] your rookies."

This is the side of KG that I don't care for.

I wonder how you feel about Larry Bird, because on his list of top trash-talking lines, even confined to rookies, this wouldn't crack the top 20.

  If you're concerned about how KG treats other players, what does it matter if the player starts or not or if his team is ahead of ours?

It doesn't concern me but I don't respect his behavior. Talk all the trash you want between the lines. Do what it takes to gain a competitive advantage. Beyond that.. respect your opponent.

My point about Teague's role on the Hawks is that he's a key contributor on a team that is currently better than the Celtics. Not a scrub on a lottery team. I appreciate a player that will do anything needed to win and is a ruthless competitor on the court. I respect that same player who demonstrates class off the court. Unless provoked otherwise, a post game interview is an opportunity to show respect to your competitor. The game is already won, there's no benefit from KG making a comment like this.

If it's on the court in a course of competition, I'm fine with it in both cases. If Bird said similar things in post game interviews, I wouldn't care for that either.

Did anyone else notice Teague holding the ball instead of launching half court shots at the end of the 1st and 2nd quarter? He literally had at least 2 seconds to shoot the ball each time and would just wait for the buzzer to go off before taking the shot, it was so obvious that he wasn't taking the shot because he didn't want his shooting % to go down.

That's pretty selfish. Yea chances are they don't go in anyway, but a true team player launches from half court and tries to get his team 6 additional points .

Add that to his tech that gave away a point and lit a fire under Ray and the C's

And then with the game on the line he air balls a 3 to tie it and immediately starts to laugh about it ...

I learned all I need to know about Teague from last nights game and would never want to see him in a Celtics uniform that's for sure!

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Kevin Garnett too time out of his day to inexplicably harass the point guard of an opposing team, despite the playing being completely out of his peer group?

Never.

I think for KG, it's all "between the lines."

FWIW, Teague's stats, if you look them up, don't really scream "somebody" material to me, the fact he starts on a good team notwithstanding. KG may or may not know them, but either way, it's not exactly inaccurate to consider Teague that. Maybe you would have preferred "just another guy". Fair enough.

Also consider the context of the question. KG not wanting to imply that it took a dunk by an opposing player to make a run I think was pretty smart, even if KG would simply consider it having pride.

  How about the three he took from about 6 feet behind the line early in the shot clock in the middle of the first quarter? How about his carefully avoiding contact when Rondo was going in for layups?
