ATLANTA — The Boston Celtics plan to add a big man to their roster by the end of the week, which means someone on the current roster has to be waived or agree to a buy-out to create a roster spot.

One of the prime candidates for such a move is Marquis Daniels.

His agent Mark Bartelstein tells CSNNE.com that there have been preliminary discussions about buying out Daniels' contract.

Well, that now makes two soon-to-be open roster spots (JO).

Ainge has got to have two targets in mind, right?

I'd agree with that. Unfortunately the little speed Marquis had seems to have vanished, and Pavlovic has been fairly strong defensively in the spot minutes he's recieved.

never would have thought it from the last 2 years but Marquis really did not look good this year AT ALL and I've loved his game since we signed him
sasha brings better legs, defensive hustle than marquis or possibly another sg  :-\
if he can hit his outside shots with some consistancy  he is a good end of bench guy, he outworks a lot of players when he is in the game
I hope marquis signs out elsewhere

I can see Pavlovic being a Celtic next season more than I can see Daniels. He's more athletic, has three-point range, and is almost three years younger.  The Celtics probably won't have a better option next season if they need a veteran fifth wing for depth.  I might prefer they go with someone with little or no NBA experience who has spent a couple of years in the D-League, but there are worse ideas out there.  He'd probably be better than bringing in someone like DeShawn Stevenson for that role.

I really feel bad for MD.  I thought he was a pretty heady player, who didn't play out of control and was a hard worker.  He was a bit of a matchup problem for our opponents as well at times.  His comeback just didn't turn out as well as everyone expected.  I think the C's did right by him though.  They brought him back after last season and gave him a chance.
Will be sorry to see him go.

I agree I think Pavlovic is probably able to give better minutes to us right now and in the future.  Pav seems really inconsistent as well.  He is another one I root for, but it seems like he is only productive in 1 out of 4 games he gets in.  Maybe that is a product of  being deep in the bench.  Hard to make an impression when you are playing junk minutes a lot.
