Why didn't Danny Ainge trade for Hickson?

I wonder that too. Dooling, cash, and a 2nd for Hickson would probably have done it for Sacto, no? Maybe they were asking for more?

I wouldn't give that up for Hickson.  He seems like the sort of player that poorly-managed teams tend to over-value then regret.  Some idiot GM will probably offer him a 3 year/$10m contract over the summer.

You wouldn't give up a mid second rounder for Hickson when you have Greg Stiemsma as your third big and pondering Chris Johnson?

I think you make a key point for ainge's decisions on players this year. There is no faster way to mediocrity than to over pay a series of so-so to slightly ok players for long term contracts.

That sucks away a teams's ability to maneuver in the future and sign free agents. It also dooms teams to drafting in the 12 to 18 range. Neither are great ways to rebuild and get stars.

Ainge will not overpay or give long term contracts to mediocre players...period.

I think he is willing to rebuild over 3 to 4 years, meaning that he is willing to have the celtics stink for a few years while he drafts role players and keeps salary open for 1 to 2 free agents over the next few years.

I believe that the free agent class of 2013 us supposed to be much deeper than this year's group.

Hickson, if signed for 3 or more years at an overpay, hurts the celtics salary flexibility and delivers them a so-so player in return.

A bad bargain I think.

Who's talking about signing him for 3 years or overpaying? Just pick him in a trade to help till the end of the season. Hickson is an expiring contract. Trading Dooling or Wilcox for him wouldn't change anything at all for the future.

That's right.  I wouldn't.  I don't see second-round picks as value-less trash and I don't see Hickson as a player I would like to see as a Celtic next season.

So do we have a real chance at getting this kid or not before I get my hopes all up?

Why not just claim him off waivers so no other team can sign him? Can they not due to the cap?

You have to have the cap space to acquire is entire contract to claim someone off of waivers.

Last week, Kings beat writer Ailene Voisin, reported that the Kings tried desperately to trade soon to be RFAs Hickson and Donte Greene at the deadline in straight salary dumps. Apparently neither drew any interest.

In Hickson's case might have something to do with the fact that his 4.7 points on 37% shooting and career worst 10.1 PER haven't diminished his sense of entitlement.

Still I'm reading rumors that either Phoenix or Golden State will claim him off waivers - which is credible. Both have the means and have expressed interest in the kid in the past.

Nash could certainly improve his career trajectory. Still I'm not sure he's markedly better than the forwards the Suns already have buried on the depth chart - Warrick and Childress.

So basically, they wanted to trade them to a team with cap space or a trade exception so they didn't have to take any salary back.

Scratch him off the list of targets....

Hickson is expected to sign with the Warriors once he clears waivers, Hoopsworld reports.
Spin: Hickson was waived by the Kings on Monday afternoon.

It takes 48 hours to clear waivers. Hickson played just 35 games for the Kings before the two sides agreed to a buyout.
