I don't think that the Lakers will be interested.  They already picked up Hill and they don't want to pick up any more salary.  Being over the Cap they would have to pay double his whole year's salary (from a Luxury Tax stanpoint) to sign him....

That's a good point.

Also, according to that same section of the Coon CBA FAQ, waiver priority is granted according to record, worse first.

According to the ESPN Trade Checker:

1. Teams that have a TE large enough to take Hickson:

Charlotte, Milwaukee, Orlando, Philly, Dallas, Golden State, LA Clippers, LA Lakers, Utah

2. Teams with enough cap space to absorb Hickson's salary:

Cleveland, Indiana, Toronto

why do we need TE? if his contract was brought out he is now free agent and can sign with anyone regardless of cup issues.
am i right?

That's what I was thinking. He's a free agent, doesn't have to clear waivers, can sign w/anyone for any amount.

You're not a free agent until you clear waivers.

Ah. Thank you for clearing that up.

the confusion is over the fact that there never really use to be a "clearing of waivers" process as far as I know.  This isn't like baseball where players could be claimed off the waiver wire.  Not until this year, at least... Chauncey Billups was the first that I can think of that actually had to "clear waivers"... and he didn't "clear waivers"... the Clippers claimed him by sending in a blind bid and "winning" him.

In previous years a bought out player is instantly a free agent.  That's how we signed Sam Cassell, Troy Murphy, etc.  They just pick whoever they want to play with.  Going a few years back you could actually trade a player to a new team... he'd get bought out... and then you could just sign him back.  We did that with Gary Payton and they changed the rules the next year... I think making a 1 month time limit until the guy could rejoin the original team.  NOw I think the rule is 1 year.

But with the new CBA i'm not sure if there is a difference or not between a "waived" player (who qualifies for this new process where teams send in blind bids and they end up paying part of his original salary up to the amount they bid) and a "bought out" player.  Originally "bought out" just means that they'd agree on a settlement amount to "buy him out" of his contract. This waiver thing is different, isn't it?  You cut a guy and whoever bids on him pays that much of his salary.  Someone will need to look into this more.  I think it's different.

Waivers are exactly like in baseball.  Teams can claim a player who is waived.  However, the team needs the cap space to assume the waived player's salary, which is why players are usually not claimed.

Bidding on players only happens when someone is waived under the amnesty clause.

LAL have Gasol, McRoberts and Hill
Mia has Bosh and Haslem
Chi has Boozer and Gibson
Indiana has West and Hansborogh
Dallas has Dirk and Odom
LAC have Griffin and KMart
Orlando has Ryan Anderson and BBD
Philly has Brand and Young

Teams that make sense are OKC,SAS,BOS,MEM and DEN

Considering his best years came in cleveland when he ran with Lebron to get most of his points, I would think Rondo would be very attractive to him if he clears waivers.

any chance of us getting some sort of injury exceptions for JO and Wilcox that would allow us to claim Hickson off waivers? Because that's our only real shot at getting him imo. It sounds like he already decided not to come to boston, and I expect several teams to try to claim him off waivers.

I don't know a whole lot about injury/disabled player exceptions, but I do know that they are only for 50% of the player's contract.

So a DE for Wilcox wouldn't be enough, but a DE for JO would be.

hmm....  Thanks for the info. TP. Maybe that's why the celtics announced today that JO is having season ending surgery?
