And if i happens what will the people say that were op****ed to selling off the expiring contracts for whatever the Celtics could get.  Isn't a second round pick better than nothing when you don't even make the playoffs.

Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett may be "expiring contracts," but they are also way more than that.  They are Celtic legends. 

If the team were to tragically miss the playoffs, I won't be bemoaning the fact that we didn't get some future picks and "assets" for our aging warriors.  Selling off those guys for "whatever (they) could get"  wouldn't sit well with me.

We'll have plenty of avenues to rebuild when it's time to rebuild.  I'm glad Danny decided to let our guys play it out.

exactly. I'm not upset at all that Danny didn't trade KG and Ray for the next JR Giddens, Bill Walker, Luke Harangody, or Semih Erden.

They have 22 games left- 8 at home 14 on the road.

Of those 22, SIX are a pair of B2B, and that doesn't include the one B2B2B.

That's potentially 8 games of potentially being dead tired. Two of those back ends are against Philly, another against Orlando, one against Atlanta, and another against Chicago.

They play Miami 3 more times, Atlanta 3 more times, San Antonio once.

More key games: one @ MSG (the fourth game of a 5 in 6 day run), and two against Milwaukee.

That's an absolutely brutal schedule. They may sneak into the 8th spot by a game or 2 , but really they would be better off falling into the lottery. They aren't even a threat in the playoffs with a big man rotation of kg,bass,steamer and whatever scrub they pick up off the waiver wire.

WOW! didn't know the rest of the season schedule looked like that. Oh My! Miami 3 times??? The Bucks are much much much better with Monta. Dunleavy has been playing out of his mind lately, Ersan & Drew. they have solid back-ups & starters. I'm actually hoping they make the 8th or 7th seed to face Miami, whom they beat twice already.

We're three games ahead of Milwaukee, 2.5 ahead of New York and only 2 games behind Atlanta for the 6th seed. Fifth seed is Indiana, only 2.5 games ahead of us. Our chances of getting one of those seeds are as good (at least on paper) as Milwaukee and New York passing us in the standings. Please, don't bury this team just yet.

I for one will be enjoying this fine bottle of wine until there is nothing left. Once it is gone, it is gone. In 2 years time, there will come a time when we will think back on how lucky we were too have 3 Hall of Famers on the court at the same time.

Both Kosta Koufos and Timofey Mozgov came to Denver in the Carmelo Anthony trade.

In a 2003 draft day trade, the Knicks traded Mark Jackson, Marcus Camby, and the #7 pick Nene Denver in exchange for Antonio Mcdyess and a second round pick.  Denver overpaid in re-signing Nene, but traded him for Javale McGee.

So, basically, the answer is "because the Knicks are stupid".  That suggests that Ainge holding out for someone to massively overpay is generally a good strategy because some teams are stupid.

this, and the fact they don't have 4 non-centers on their roster tying up their salary structure like the C's do (3 over $10 mill and 1 over $20 mill).  This prevents the acquisition of a good center unless you trade one or more of those players.

Nevermind that of those 4 players, only 1 is playing up to their current salary.

Denver's not my idea of how to run a team.  As a franchise that has lost in the first round of the playoffs in seven of the last eight seasons, the Nuggets are an example of long-term mediocrity that the Celtics should avoid.  They were lucky that the Knicks overpaid for Carmelo Anthony.  They've given too much money for too many years to Aron Affalo, Al Harrington, and Chris Andersen.  They seem poised to make the same mistake with Wilson Chandler.

the celtics are also 1.5games back of the 76ers too(one loss back) for the division/#4 seed

so, we are just as likely to move up as fall backwards..the Knicks/Bucks arent "That good" that I think they go ahead of us.

this game against the hawks tomorrow is important because it could put us in a position to at least move to the #6 seed

I am OK either way.

Dropping to 9th in the East is a unique gift in a way.  Instead of looking at the 15th pick, I believe we'd be more likely looking at the 10th/11th pick with so many West non-playoff teams around .500.  

the 10th plus Clips (still hoping for a free-fall there) would be nice.  

Added bonus: If the C's fall to 9 with the Bucks taking the 8th spot, we also get the Bucks 2nd rounder this year (#46).

Unless we get Kaman AND Diaw/Johnson/Turiaf, we will expend too much energy getting into the playoffs and will most likely be one and done.

Good post as I was just thinking about this the other day. The Knicks have been playing better since D'Antoni "quit" and Milwaukee is definitely a beter team since acquiring Ellis

I definitely don't see Philly or Indy fading out as both teams just have too much talent. The only playoff caliber teams which could have a meltdown are Orlando and Atlanta as they're both very hot and cold. But certainly there is a legit chance the Celtics could be on the outside looking in.

If that happens, I am not going to be as accepting as others. Yes I thoroughly enjoyed the 2008 title run. That said, this is a "what have you done for me lately" business. Well, lately the Celtics have played very uninspiring basketball. Also, the fact that KG and Paul Pierce both didn't exactly go out of their way to end the lockout earlier this year is another reason why I am not going to get all warm, fuzzy and sentimental.
