The culture and tutelage thing is really overstated. From youngsters like Patrick O'Bryant to veterans like Marbury, there's a long line of rejects who were supposedly to become productive in Boston because of those things. Has it ever worked? It's not like Houston has a roster filled with kids with no veteran guidance. It's a very good organization with an excellent record of turning dubious prospects into productive NBA players. Plus, who knows how many veterans will be around next season (this season there won't be much more practices anyway)?

I'd be willing to take a chance on him because he has some elite traits, but only in a cheap contract that would bring him back next season. A 2 year minimum contract.

I mostly agree, but I have the impression, that McHale is very "old school" when it comes to coaching, and is not a players' coach like Doc. That doesn't mean that T-Will would suddenly develop basketball IQ, because he played with the Celtics, but Doc seems to have a way  to connect with almost every player he gets to work with.

I agree with this.

Also, in Houston, he had 4 players at the wing in front of him: Courtney Lee, Budinger, KevMart and Parsons.

McHale lost his patience with him, especially after he skipped a practice recently after a game in which he performed well.

Agree with Chris about the "learning the system" thing, but would still like to get him now.

Again, I think that the lack of action by the Cs yesterday has me impatient to have someone we can talk about signed.

I am a Sasha fan though and would like to have both. Dump JO, MD and Wilcox for TWill and two bigs. Then we'll have something to talk about/look forward to.

I think that's what i missed most about yesterday's denouement. Given the status of our team, we have no new binky/hope/blood to reinvigorate the team and my enthusiasm for the team. I still will always watch them, but right now it's not with any excitement, but rather with resignation.

New players bring you a feeling of hope, even if it is an illusion.

I want to keep Wilcox on the roster, to retain his rights. He could be a nice and cheap signing next year ($3 mil)?

Hoping there's a decision today on JO. Ainge is supposedly meeting with him to see what's up. Medical retirement, buyout, cleared to play, whatever it is, I want to hear something soon.

Of the three, I think Sasha's closest to being a valuable player for the C's.

He is a guy I would love to pick up over the summer on a vet minimum contract.  But I think he would be pretty useless right now.  He is a lot like Wafer (although more talented).  Has a chance to be a decent player once he learns the system...but you need to give him the time to learn the system.

Agree, Chris, for the most part, but MORE useless than MD?

I think the reason we go for him now is that the team who gets him probably has the inside track on him this summer.

I think MD is gone, but that is to bring in a big man.  We need to get at least 2 big men for the stretch run IMO, but we are pretty set on the perimeter.

I'd rather roll the dice on T-Will than maintain Marquis or Sasha

Again, I expect MD to be cut.  Sasha on the other hand has been very useful and would likely be a much better player for the rest of the year than TWill would be.  I really think he would be completely useless for the rest of the year, because he can't learn the system.

Get him on the summerleague team, and give him a shot there, but this team is trying to still win games this season.  Next year is when we get to take flyers on young headcases.

I don't see how Sasha has been very useful.  Was dreadful in a starting role; has had maybe 20-30 minutes of notable production all season.

I'd prefer T-Will's + rebounding and athleticism at the 2-guard spot (it's not like Sasha can shoot anymore anyways).

Sasha has played very good defense and has fit well into the system offensively.  He has basically been a wing version of Scal.  Doesn't give you much offense, but he defends and doesn't take anything off the table.  It is exactly what you want from a 10th or 11th man that really will only be used in case of foul trouble or injuries.

I've always been a fan of Williams, but at this point you have to wonder if hes ever going to come around.

Worth a shot imo.  Not much to lose by cutting MD/SP for him.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I'd cut Dooling or Daniels definitely. Dooling only serves to steal minutes from Bradley and Daniels simply doesn't fit with Doc's offense and is almost never healthy. Wiliams can play the same role Daniel's does with more athleticism and speed, pretty much Tony Allen. I hope Danny is considering it, but I doubt it.

Too much overlap between Rondo and T.Williams. He'd never max out his potential. All Boston could do is try to put him on the right on track before he leaves for another team and becomes the star player he is capable of being.

Exactly.  We aren't desperate for a wing. People need to stop exagerating.  Between Ray, Paul and Pietrus we have no minutes available there.  Now the need for another big is a whole different story.... :)
