You're telling me Raymond Sessions (a backup PG in Cleveland) and Jordan Hill have more value at this point than Paul Pierce and Ray Allen (Hill and Sessions both fetched 1st rounders).   I guess I realized that already... but it's still blowing my mind.

I think it's more that getting rid of the contract of Luke Walton and Derek Fisher (whose player option killed the deal that would have brought in Beasley) has more value than a couple of months of Ray Allen.  Ainge probably could have found a way to get a couple of late first rounders for Ray Allen if he had been willing to take on a couple of players of the quality and contract size as Walton and Fisher.

I'm still in a state of shock to be perfectly honest.  WE have failed every single test this year. 0-9 against every single contending team (Dallas, OKC, Chicago, Miami, LA)... and consistently the reason is lack of size.  Outrebounded.  Dominated inside.  YOu can't compete with a team like this.  If you still think this team is "dang" good, you're in "dang" denial.

I'm still beside myself.  I can't believe we didn't do a single thing to improve our team in the short or long term.  Completely shocked.

I couldn't agree more.  There's a long list of teams that we're not beating in the playoffs. I don't understand why some people can't acknowledge this.  I'm all for staying positive and rooting for the Green, but at some point you have to come back to reality and start making moves that will benefit the future. There's a lot of denial going on here.

KG and...?  Bass is a 6'8" 250LB shooting guard.  To his credit, he has been rebounding pretty well lately.  JJJ won't be NBA ready for years, if ever.

EDIT: Boy I really effed that quote up. Sorry, still getting used to these boards.

31 mil coming off the books between two players this season puts us in great financial shape for the future. making a trade to lock us up with a mediocre player for a few years while saying it is to win now is almost more of a denial claim. i dont think any trade available would have made us better, in result, danny didnt make one.

If the right deal was out there Ainge should have and would have pulled the trigger.  It wasn't out there so he held.

Putting together a trade that firstly benefits the Celtics (because that is what we care about) but also benefits the other team involved (because it if it doesn't then they don't deal) while bidding against many other teams also looking to make deals is a whole lot harder then people think.

Ainge isn't running the Celtic's in a bubble.   Does anyone honestly believe he didn't kick just about every tire in the NBA this past month? He and Doc obviously didn't like what was out there for what we had to offer so they held which is exactly what he should have done.

It's just they had soooo much time to work out a deal.  I think the shopping around should have started as soon as Jeff Green was declared out for the season.  Did anyone really think JO was going to last a full season as our C?  But don't worry, we have Chris Wilcox backing him up... This team was so [dang] thin from the get go.  The Big 3 was showing signs of aging last year, and we did absolutely nothing to help support them.  In fact, we threw even more responsibility on them.  The one glimmer of hope was the David West deal, after that fell through, it should have been declared a lost season.  I find it pretty shocking that not a single move was made.

Sorry I agree with the OP
Though I understand that out assets couldn't land us a 1st rounder, I just don't see the point of wearing down the team just to be ousted in the first round of the playoffs. We should've traded ray and maybe kg anywhere for young players. Forget picks. Then let the young group play fast breaks and tank to maximize our picks

Very hard to be positive knowing that the same team that came short of a 2nd championship bcuz our big got injured, could make similar run with another two years of wear and tear on their bodies
Not going to happen
Can't stop, Rondo!

I wish you would stop defining "contender" as teams that we haven't beaten just because it fits your narrative of how awful we are.

"Dominated inside"?  How is that the case when we have one of the best defenses in the league?

Also, we did beat the Bulls; the same Rose-less Bulls who just beat the Heat and have played as well without him as they have with him.  We beat the Magic twice who have a better record than Dallas and LA, your other two random contenders.  As a matter of fact, the Celtics currently have a better record than your contender known as the Dallas Mavericks.

He should have made trades that would make us worse. Trade Ray Allen or Bass for whatever he can get. And what's the problem of taking in some salary for the next season? Howard is off the market.

Ainge probably could have made a trade before the season like KG for Hedo Turkoglu, JJ Redick, and a first round pick, getting the Celtics both a young player and a pick in exchange for taking on a bad contract.

Maybe the Celtics should have offered Brandon Bass to the Lakers in exchange for Luke Walton and a first round pick.

Maybe that should have been Ray Allen to Indiana for a mere second round pick or maybe two second round picks (but not a first).

TP.

People can't be claiming we should rebuild and then saying "oh we didn't get a big". Which one is it that Danny should do? Or is it just more fun to complain?

Who are the only teams that would want Pierce or Ray? Most likely contenders, right? Are their 1st round picks gonna be high or low? Kinda high, right? You wanna trade them for low 1st round picks when we already have two 1st rounders as it is?

Seriously...

to get picks or young players for one of the big 3, they would have had to take back equal contracts. If they werent expiring, I dont blame Danny for not doing anyhting.

I don't care, but he should have picked one. Either give this team a chance to contend or blow it up and maximize the assets for the future.

I don't believe Marcus Camby or Gerald Wallace have so much more value than Pierce (or Allen). In any case, Pierce has contract for 2 more years. Can still be traded in him the Summer or next season.

For Ray Allen, sure. A first round pick, even if a late one, is better than nothing. Seems a no-brainer to me.
