Danny Ainge and the Celtics made no moves before Thursday afternoon’s deadline, but it wasn’t for lack of trying.

According to FOX Sports’ Sam Amico, “Clippers were THIS close to obtaining Celtics G Ray Allen, says source close to team.”

It’s no surprise that Allen’s name came up in talks, as he’d help just about any contender looking to bolster its 3-point shooting for the stretch run. The 36-year-old is in the final year of his contract, and he’s shooting 47.2 percent from beyond the arc, the best such mark of his 16-year career.

Earlier Thursday, Amico tweeted that one rival GM was fed up with dealing with Danny Ainge, going so far as to say, “Bleep him.”

If the Clippers are smart, there's no way they trade for Ray Allen, whether for Bledsoe or a future first, without getting the Gomes contract off their books for next year.  If Ainge is smart, there's no way he takes it without both Bledsoe and a first.

Bledsoe is not that good. Why is everyone so hot on him?

I been wondering the same thing for sometimes now! What's special about him?

So far as I can tell, it's mostly people who liked him in college, or someone who saw him in a game and decided they liked his "form" or some other highly subjective subject.

I mean yes, he's young and he has room to improve, but he is never going to be more than a role player.

Elite athleticism on a rookie contract.  Some people over-value athleticism.

Clippers made up for not getting Ray by trading for Nick Young.  Nowhere near the great 3 point shooter Ray is but he is younger and can score points.  Could be a great addition to their bench for a playoff run...

People are high on Bledsoe because he is a good young player with loads of potential and athleticism.

He has already proved very productive in limited minutes as an energy guy on both ends of the floor.  He has shown good vision and an ability to get to the rim with ease.

I don't know why anybody would be low on him.  Sure, nothing is guaranteed, but I don't see anybody overrating him.

1) Amico is an idiot.

2) I would much rather have Ray than that package. Bledsoe is extremely overratted and doesnt get much play time. Foye and Cook arent that great. And a pick would have been nice but it woulda been near the second end of the first round. I stick with Ray no doubt.

Because I don't see the evidence that he HAS been productive. I have never even noticed him when he's on the court and I'm watching Clippers games. And looking at his numbers he has actually been remarkably UNproductive in the minutes he's been given. His shooting percentages this season are ABYSMAL, and they weren't much better last year, either. He also turns the ball over a lot more than he should. The only positives I see is that he rebounds fairly well for a guard (but that may be due to small sample size), and he has racked up a few steals.

So he's not a complete scrub, but in terms of production he is indistinguishable from about 2 dozen other bench players. So I don't see why people are singling him out specifically. Randy Foye, for example, has been FAR more productive in the minutes he's been given. Heck, Courtney Fortson has been more productive!

Bledsoe is a good defender of point guards I know that much. According to clippers analysts, the clippers allow 81 points per 100 possessions with him on court and 96 points per 100 possessions with him off court.
