... and Avery Johnson has had nothing but good things to say about his defense.

That may be true, but he still ranks 400th in the NBA in points allowed per possession.  Small sample size or not, that's horrific.

Haha, that is hilarious.

Nice to see him back in the NBA, and having some good scoring games.

But...it's one thing to score a lot of points on a sub-par team that won't make the POs late in the season, and another to score them in more meaningful situations.  Plus, if his defense is as bad as alluded to, then he's just another guy who can score points....plenty of them not playing in the NBA.

I hope Gerald does well but the system in NJ without Lopez is basicall iso's and three pointers.  They have done well taking what the defense has given them becaus they don't run good offensive sets and therefore they need strong shooters to succeed.  It's no coincidence that Brooks does so well for a rookie but it's also no coincidence that their record stinks because you can't beat teams when all you do is take jumpshots.

i don't think Gerald has to become a great NBA defender to be successful but he has to at least be better than a 36 year old Ray Allen on defense and I'm not sure that he is there yet.

Where are you seeing that? Synergy?

I'm by no means saying he's a good man defender (he's not), only that his defensive flaws can be hidden on a good defensive team (much the way Ray Allen's are here). His dRtg is actually above the Nets average, not that I'd put much stock into dRtg.

On the offensive end, yes, the Nets ISO a ton and freelance, but as I mentioned earlier, that's actually not an especially good fit for him (he's certainly made the most of it thus far though). He struggles efficiency wise creating for himself, but off the ball and in transition he can do some damage.

Green would be a great fit next to Rondo. Even if we suck next year, at least we would be WATCHABLE with lots of flashy dunks and fast breaks.

good for him if he can finally stick in the league.  I don't think he was a bad kid, just totally unaware of the physical and mental commitment needed to play in the NBA.  Definitely someone that would have benefited from at least a couple of years in college.

Either you are saying we are a bad team or Gerald is the perfect fit for us because that sounds like our offense, the only difference is that we have no GG to create his own offense & score bid points in limited minutes. We have No Big Man & only shoot jumpshots!
