Re: Latest on Wilcox and O'Neal?

Wilcox:  Out for season.
O'Neal:  Check his mood ring.  May be the most reliable barometer to figure out if he feels like gracing us with his presence this month.

Stay classy, San Diego. Hello, Baxter? Baxter, is that you? Bark twice if you're in Milwaukee. Is this Wilt Chamberlain? Have the decency to say something.

So, if Ainge can't flip Wilcox's expiring contract for something, it makes sense to waive Wilcox and sign any warm body big, even if it is Mikki Moore.

Did you seriously just say Mikki Moore?

Yes, I did seriously just say a guy who probably can do more for this team than Keyon Dooling.

Mikki Moore was the worst Celtic in the big 3 era, why bring him back? Any other big body from the D-League would be better. Isnt Mikki like 35 also?

Well, he'd do more than Jermaine O'Neal for about 1/8th the price.

Doc has to suck it up and play Steamer as our primary backup center, and JJJ as our primary backup PF.

Thats a decent enough combo.

agreed. Steamer has been playing decent, he has to play the young guys whether he wants to or not. You can't keep them benched and burn out KG.

I didn't read the rest of these but I have to ask, if JO is out for the remainder of the season... which seems likely... can't we just amnesty him? That would free up a roster spot.

Oh okay thanks, well it was a nice thought. Maybe then just waive Wilcox to free something up.

No need to amnesty him anyways.  He can be waived to open up a roster spot.

Chris Wilcox To Undergo Aortic Surgery

BOSTON – The Boston Celtics announced today that forward Chris Wilcox will undergo aortic surgery at the Cleveland Clinic on March 29, and will miss the remainder of the 2011-12 season.

A team of leading cardiac specialists who consulted with Wilcox and the Celtics indicated that surgery should completely repair Wilcox’s condition and that he can expect to resume his NBA career next season.

Wilcox has long had an aortic abnormality that remained stable throughout his 10-year NBA career. However, as a precautionary measure, the Celtics medical staff scheduled frequent aortic scans for Wilcox, and a recent scan showed a significant enlargement of his aorta. After several follow-up tests, doctors recommended surgery.

“While we are saddened that Chris will not be able to play again this season, the most important thing is his health, and we were fortunate to have access to an amazing team of specialists to evaluate Chris’s case,” said Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge. “The entire Celtics family supports Chris during this difficult time in his career.”

At Chris’s request, neither Chris nor the Celtics will have any additional comment at this time.

Well yeah, just figured that if they could have the 6 million he's making not count against the cap when waived that'd be nice but they can't so... waive him if he can't come back.
